    Might be something adjacent to bone conduction, only the other, squishier bits of the human person may contribute thereto as well? We tend to block out the sounds our own bodies make because they're constantly in the background, ergo incentivising our brain to filter those sounds out, but with attenuation of external sounds those same ones including heart beat may then be more prominent.

    What @Lyander said? Conduction noise? It’s also when you’re eating, talking, scratching your head…noise conducted by your body to your internal ears. Disclaimer: I’m not an ENT.

    Occlusion effect. Drove me mad when I was using typical IEMs for running. The Bose Soundsport, which sort of rest in the ear with their wings, is much better. Airpods also do okay.

    Thanks for your thoughts. Occlusion effect makes sense to me! I try to find a good fitting German term for it, because there is none.
