I don't know if you're aware or if it were merely coincidence, but Apocalypse Now, based on Conrad's novella and my favorite film of all time, both begins and ends the film with the track you mentioned, framing it.
I already read Mary Shelley's "Frankenstein" and the theme of creating something new with all its implications, especially technology, trade or even a life is fascinating.
By the way, the ending in the novel is better than I expected with regards to the nature of truth and Kurtz's last words. For some people the truth is too cruel...
Conrad's examination of the consequences of imperialism on both the home culture and the colonized is brilliant. The disconnect between Kurtz's widow and the reality of the Congo carries immense thematic implications. And I absolutely love the opening comparison between the Romans moving up the Thames and the British moving up the Congo.
