I've got a pair of unmodded Elear and some modding materials.

I really loved the PMX2 loaner and I actually looked around for a PM2 but they pretty hard to come by.

Me and HD650 forever. My search also continues...

The Elear was such a huge disappointment for me

I enjoyed my first demo with the Elear but the recessed mids did bother me on the second listen. However I was listening for that because of the reviews so maybe I heard what I wanted to hear. I didn't like the 650 at first either but the mods really made it sing. I'm curious if the Elear has the same potential. It sounds like the pads are its biggest weakness.

The upper mid suckout is very significant so I doubt you were hearing it because you wanted to hear it. I had one for a couple of weeks and I tried one of the brainwavz angled pads. It helped But I decided to return it and wait for something else. I'm thinking about the Utopia now.

the elear is not that headphone though. you're better off with the zach effron or modded hd6x0/580 and spending that cash on a good amp for them.

i should also say that mods helped the elear out quite a bit, but it totally totally lacked the cohesion of a hd6x0/580 and sounded disjointed and weird. or buy a pmx2 i guess.

I'm honestly torn on the Zach Effron. With genres like jazz and acoustic guitar, it blows my mind. Unfortunately, I'm mostly a classic rock / prog rock and electronic guy so the cup reverb of the Eikon can make tracks sound congested when things get busy. I sort of miss the airiness of opens as well.
