Got pics of the work as you do it? I didn't get in on this, but I want to make cables for some headphones relatively soon and I'm interested.

From start to finish, how does it take to do 1 balanced headphone cable? My second cable still took about 1 day: strip the cable, sheath in paracord, braid, prep for soldering, then solder. Sheathing, braiding, and prepping (strip wire, pre-tin, identifying which wire) seems to take me the longest time.

 

At optimum efficiency, it takes probably 2-2.5 hours to just prep and sleeve the wires. Maybe another 1-1.5 to braid and terminate. But since I don't have blocks of time that large, a single cable can take several days to make. The biggest pain, as you already know is the prepping and the finishing. It takes a while to get the wires and sleeving to line up just right so that the cable looks tight and clean. A naked braided cable can be knocked out in under an hour easily. That's why I never went into full business doing cables. There wouldn't be a way to get fair value for my time and keep the prices reasonable. The few people doing this professionally and for cheap are basically valuing their time near nothing.

 

Yes, I just noticed that even on my second set the left channel from Y-split to headphone is slightly longer than the right. I could have swore I double-checked the after-braiding lengths and they were matched.

Before doing this, my jaw dropped at the prices. Now I have new appreciation for anyone who sells customs for <$200. Still can't wrap my head around >$500, though.
