Today I had this at work. Not good thing to have at work, as it turned out. Equivalent of having a bikini model lay on a desk or bucket of coke or something like that...
(No, sadly it's not mine, it's a loaner from a very generous friend)

Things get very interesting when they ask about the cost and you decide to be honest.

Well, not hard but involved. Power down. Wait 5 min. Disconnect. Remove 2A3's. Unscrew / remove bottom plate. Change tubes. Reverse steps.

I've done that. Just a hassle. Wondering if anyone has a way to take out the tubes without removing the plate. Thanks

Well, removing the potholes doesn't help (I know, that's the first thing I tried because I thought that was the way to get to the 417as), so not sure what other method there could be.

I've got RCA, LM ericcson, amperex, raytheon (stock) and some english made international 5842s. I haven't bothered with the 417a as i was told the WE417 is not a great combination with the studio.
The RCA and amperex are the best to my ear. A tad warmer than the others I have.

I heard one studio owner was using WE417/5842 TO WE437 adapters. Which opens up a few more doors, however i would never use an adapter without @Marvey and Craigs blessing.

After rolling a few exotic tubes in my studio (avvt, fivre, cunningham) I ended up landing on just some regular westinghouse wavy plate (non spring) 2a3s and RCA 5842 drivers. Neither of which are very expensive. I also switched the rectifiers to the siemans spring 6d22s. Still waiting on some GE and telefunken rectifiers.

I'm extremely happy with the amplifier and the current synergy but desperately want to hear how capable it is with speakers.

How are the rest of owners travelling?

Sorry to reopen this old thread, but I think Craig EC studio deserves some love.
I just demoed a pavane to studio with quad ken rad 2a3 with mogami 3023 turned speaker cables into omega speaker compact alnico.
The cables and speakers were brand new.
Shortly, I was expecting a better sound experience. But something was off... maybe it was speaker and cable just new?
    Any other impressions with speakers?

It's hard to say what was off since there are many factors, but the Studio can be unforgiving since it's so revealing. I actually have a pair of Omega CAM and think they pair well with the Studio.

Yes, you are correct. The world unforgiving was in my mind during the demo.
Im going to repeat the meeting in 10 days, this time with some selected tracks and a good CD player and will report back.
We were using usb-pavane and I already discovered that it’s usb it’s poo.

I haven’t heard the Studio, but I have a pair of Omega speakers and an Aficionado. The Omega speakers require some real burn in time (and this is coming from someone who generally does not believe in burn in for most components). You mentioned they were brand new. I’m not kidding when I say there were times when I thought they sounded terrible. There would be momentary, intermittent glimpses of greatness, followed by more disappointment. I can’t tell you how long they took to burn in, but I didn’t leave them on 24/7. I have floor standers with 7” (I think) cones.
