    True. I meant imd from shitty even in the 80s opamps sounds worse than tubes.

    Izotope and Ozone are the noise gates of today. Gating kills drums. Lots of pop and edm guys use ozone on every track.

    I'm going to suggest that 30+ sines at -20 dBu will produce an aggregate of approximately -5 dBu RMS. For an HD6x0 or HD800 or HE500 that will be around 95 dB SPL at the ear of the listener. This adds to your comment of being unrealistic. Who wants to be wearing hearing aids at a relatively young age. So testing levels that better represent actual use case are more reasonable. EC Studio 45 residual IMD will be below your lower graph limit if tested with signal generator set 15 dB lower for a use case of approximately 80 dB SPL

    Very true. I just wanted to make sure in case an audio scientist made the argument for peak signal distortion for folks who like to listen at loud volumes. I'll crank it up on occasion myself, but not for long periods of time. Even less so now at my age when things start going downhill.

    Probably the best explanation of noise and distortion measurement significance I’ve read. Thanks for that. Answered some questions regarding IMD I’ve been curious about for a while. I am also curious to know audibility thresholds for ringing associated with square wave reproduction. @atomicbob posted some impressive performance measurements for the Cavalli liquid gold, which are undoubtedly better than any of my amps, but is it audible?
