I'd run big ass quarter wavelength horns from it.
Where do you expect the Studio Jr to fit in the current lineup in terms of its sound profile? I.e. How do you expect it to sound compared to the BA and ZDS? It's priced right between the two.
Hard to say until we build the prototype. I would like to move it more toward the BA / ZDS direction in terms of tone. Even if i have to buy a dozen pairs of caps to do it. The Studio is a neutral amp. This should be slightly tubier.
@Marvey, I'm totally looking forward to your ZDS/Studio Jr proto write up. Yes you are, oh yes you are....
Ok sounds good. I do have a follow up question regarding the driver tube. Would it be possible to change it to a 6sl7 as a customization or would that require too much of a change in the planned design? The main reason I ask is because I have a ZDS and would like to reuse my 6sl7s from it.
I just sent in my preorder form to Judy. Looking for the speaker tap option as well. Will this be able to drive a pair of fostex sigmas similiar to what JK47 has?
I hope final sound is like the ZDS / BA - thats what I have been toying with internally for the last couple of months.
would be very interested to know the differences between the prototype and ZDS
Is the speaker out option that much more expensive? Judi is saying it'll be in the ballpark of around $4K-$5K?
She did say that Studio Junior will be replacing the BA though, so I guess, the pricepoint (with speaker out option) being around the neighborhood of the BA makes more cost effective in that regard.
Also, do you think it's possible that timeframe is pushed back drastically to around Q3-Q4 of 2017? Since Judi mentioned a couple of issues, particularly, about "trying to get more assemblers but the art of hand wiring is getting harder and harder to find and the parts are harder and harder to source," and "some assemblers we hoped to add did not work out, Craig’s arm prevented lifting of the amps he has to test"
I volunteer to help assemble on my days off (9 days a month), heavy lifting, soldering if I'm worthy, and what ever else.
I don't expect a discount or a wage, just the chance to learn.
@Marvey Any chance of a speaker only amp coming out of EC? If not i might be interested in the Jnr. TBH i just use my GOV2 + 650s more of the time.
@Marvey I've had my heart set on a Zana Deux Super for a while but this sounds like it will give the ZDS a run for it's money. I know either will pair well with HD650 but how do you think the Studio Jr will pair with the HE-6? Otherwise it's ZDS to power amp. I know you're still prototyping so I'm not expecting impressions just your thoughts when you have a better understanding of what Studio Jr has to offer.
Ugh, EC pre, phono, int, or power please. Rest of you buy existing EC headamps until your kids grow up, and you can listen to speakers again.
Definitely interested + speaker out
Will there be anything the Aficionado can't drive well?
Hmmmm... Damn, I don't know if I should go for the ZDS or the Studio Jr. if they're both kinda pushing my budget. @Marvey Just so I don't misunderstand can if I fill out the preorder form how much of a commitment is it? I'm interested but price speculation is a bit too up and down for me to want to fully commit to a locked in purchase.
If you would recommend it with Utopias and Yggdrasil over the ZDS by a healthy margin I'd be pretty okay in buying it, but the time frame window is up in the air. If you said it was ready to go in a couple weeks and send deposits it's not really something I should do. But in like late July/August or something it should be no issue (depending on final price).
I apologize if there was somewhere else I could find this info I came up empty and your post in this thread was saying possible April launch. I just don't want to waste people's time and effort if it's A. coming very soon, or B. well over 3K (that 3K initial estimate is super enticing).
@Galm try the following thread
Thanks! I believe I was confused because the Studio Jr. is what's currently on the site. I've read some of that thread but not all of it, so I guess I'll catch up!
Edit: oh yeah that turned into just what I was looking for... whoops.
