FS: Bryston BHA-1

Hi Friends,

Here's my contribution to the SBAF's Great Purge haha.

Bryston BHA-1 is one of the few solid state amps that synergizes great with a picky bastard of a headphone like HD800 without the stereotypical treble glare/nasties. I would say its main strengths are grippy bass, stellar macro- and micro-dynamics, good staging with actual depth. I loved it with my JAR650 and HD800SDR+SBAF-rugliner+cork, and a trusted broski @brencho told me it also works well with ZMFs. If you felt like the Black Widow was a bit too warm and lush and found the Rag 1 slightly bright, here's the Goldilocks product that's kind of in-between the two. Majority of my listening goes into my Starlett so I think it's time I let this go to another friend who will give it good use.

Stop jerking off to THX-meme-69 amps and give this bad boy a shot.

The amp is in pristine condition with all the original packaging and accessories. It has about 19 years (lol yeah you heard me right) of warranty left.

Not open to randos for now since I'm not really in a rush to sell.

Kidding aside, how does this compare with the DSHA 3F for Focals?

(I may have already seen the answer to my question somewhere, and I could probably easily search for it. But I'm at the gym on my phone so I'm being lazy.)

 

I had a feeling someone would eventually ask me this haha. It's been a while since I heard the 3F so take this with a grain of salt.

- BHA-1 has better macrodynamics/slam, versatility, stage depth.
- 3F wins out in microdynamics, transients, clarity, resolve/microdetail/plankton, and stage width. **This doesn't mean BHA-1 sucks at these categories, it actually gets pretty close to 3F at 1/3 of the price. Overall, 3F is the superior amp, but if you don't want to shell out close to 3 grand, this might be a good option for you. At least tonally, I would say the two amps are more similar than different, but they have different strengths/weaknesses.

And if I lived in CONUS this would be a no brainer to try (for both Focals & HD800), before deciding whether or not to move up to the 3F @3x$.

I so want to try this. My SPL phonitor x came yesterday.... Might draw the wife's unwanted attention...

 

Just use a Sharpie on the front panel labels and slip it under your stack. She won't even notice.

 

This amp is worth the upgrade from a phonitor e for focals?
