    Hi Everyone! pure5152 here.

So as the title says, I've decided to leave audio as a hobby and sell all the audio gear I own. This has not been an easy decision and I've been contemplating this for a very long time now, over several months. If you’re curious as to why, please check out the spoiler below, but in general just deciding to move on from audio-as-a-hobby to more seriously pursue art/illustration/animation (my main passion/aspiration), and really could use the more money/time.

The basic essence of why I'm leaving audio as a hobby is I've decided to focus my time, effort, and money on becoming more serious with learning art/illustration/animation. While I loved listening to audio through audio gear, I realized it was becoming an unhealthy addiction for me-- I would often spend five hours a night just purely listening to audio (it just sounded so good I couldn't get myself to stop), and it would ruin my sleep schedule and my productivity for other things I wanted to focus on, like seriously studying art and working on drawing.

Starting a few months ago, I decided to try fully packing up all my audio gear and see how things changed. I realized I was more focused, disciplined, more productive. Surprisingly, I also started to enjoy music more— I think because I was just enjoying music casually instead of worrying about the technicalities of "how well it sounded" and if I was "making the most of the expensive audio gear I had”.

I'm not quitting music. I still listen to music often on airpods while doing other house chores and such. But audio as a hobby I just can't go back to. It’s just too addictive for me and I can’t pull myself away (I tried a couple weeks ago to listen to the gear I packed up, and it just wasn't worth it for me anymore). The AirPods pros are the threshold for me where it’s still enjoyable but I can easily detach whenever.

I appreciate everyone here for making audio such a fun and enjoyable part of my life for the past many years (since I started back in 2015, and on SBAF since 2019). I hope you can understand, and I really hope the gear I’ve owned and loved finds good owners here on this forum. Thank you for everything guys!

Surf Audio Oppo PM-3 3.5mm to 2.5 — $5 shipped CONUS (basically free)

    • ALL PICS: https://imgur.com/a/HWfU5Kn
    • This is in good condition and will come in the original bag. Has a 2.5mm connector for use with portable Daps or whatnot.
    • I should have included this when I sold the PM-3 I used to own years ago, but I totally forgot and I feel it’d be a waste to throw this in the trash… This cost me $100 when I bought it originally

Schiit Bifrost 2/64 (Silver) — $600 shipped net CONUS
    • ALL PICS: https://imgur.com/a/c94bMeO
    • Will come with original manufacturing packaging and remote. Will also come with a basic grey shielded power cord instead of the original generic power cord. Only has the 2/64 card, no OG bifrost 2 card. This has the older bifrost 2 shiny silver toggle input-switcher button, which I think is aesthetically way nicer than the current matte silver ones (see pictures).
    • Condition is excellent— bought this second-hand from a friend on SBAF, and upgraded it to the 2/64 card. Visually and functionally in excellent condition.
    • Loved this DAC, and especially synergizes with the Jar800 to help bring out the slam with the extra subbass kick (when used with the andix from my experience). It seems like I’m in the minority here on sbaf, but truly felt the bifrost 2/64 was way nicer than the bifrost 2 OG, largely because the 2/64 was way clearer/punchier/transparent than the more muddier/warmer sounding 2 OG, which I preferred. With the right amp and headphone combo it’s just stellar, and really helps the JAR800 slam and soundstage!

    Jar800 V2.1 - SN 33K — $2000 shipped CONUS
    • ALL PICS: https://imgur.com/a/3TOeHyt
    • Will come with the pelican case and a 1/4” headphone cable (black plug)
    • Condition is great— it has a little bit of paint scuffs from the original unit (since the original 33K was bought used, see pics), but the pads were replaced very recently and are in excellent condition and the headband is also in excellent condition.
    • This is the same pair of headphones I originally featured in my Jar800 impressions (https://www.superbestaudiofriends.o...jar800s-impressions-thread.12499/#post-397047), but was recently upgraded to the latest V2.1 mods by Jupiter (last Summer 2023).
      • The V2.1 mods I’ve found eased/expanded/increased the upper treble and soundstage, while also tightening/extending the bass a little, making the headphone sound more extended at both ends and open than the V1 mods do. It still sounds like “an hd800”, but is now balanced closer to the “super hd650 sound” imo. The newer adjusted mods make the 33k sound a lot closer to what a LSN Jar800 sounds like (though the LSN Jar800 still has a few advantages I’ve found, see below)
      • Apparently compared to v2.0 mods, the v2.1 mods add even more bass presence and expand the highs even more, though I haven't heard the v2.0 mods myself so can't say for certain.
    • I think it’s safe to say I really loved this headphone. My love/preference for it and what it could do was only unseated by the LSN 6K Jar800 I ended up also getting, which feels like it takes what makes the jar800 great and dials it up a notch (which is really saying something, as the JAR800 33k was already so good...).

    LSN Jar800 V2.1 - SN 6K — $2300 shipped CONUS

    • ALL PICS:
    • Will come with the pelican case, a 1/4” stock headphone cable (silver plug), and an extra set of stock hd800 ear pads and a stock hd800 headband pad
      • Will also come with an Audioquest Perch headphone stand outfitted with dekoni bullets for a perfect fit with the JAR800 (see picture below)
    • Condition is also great— like the 33k, also has a few scuffs (since the 6k was bought used as well), but both the headband pad and the ear pads were recently replaced and are both in excellent condition. One note: the headband can be a little bit finicky/doesn’t click as securely as the 33k (this might have been a thing with the older LSN headbands in general I’m guessing), but otherwise works okay.
    • After ending up liking the 33k Jar800 so much, talked with Jupiter and he convinced me to buy a LSN Jar800 6K used and have him mod it for me using the newer mods (again, just re-modded this past summer). The LSN Jar800’s are the real deal, and have a much more open/resolving soundstage and a punchier “slam” feeling, hard to explain. It basically just feels like the 33k Jar800, but with more expanded/extended upper treble and slam (at the cost of a tiny less warmth at the bottom end)— a true “next level” upgrade IMO.
    • Of all the headphones I’ve tried, I think this is the one I’ll miss the most, and by selling it this is me saying I’m definitely leaving the hobby. I love this headphone!
      • Note: I’m specifically noting the “LSN” aspect because serials of a hd800 under a certain number literally had different physical differences that changed the sound aspects to be more open/transparent and have more slam.

    Lyr+/Lyr 3 Tubes (2x RCA 6SN7GT, 1950s, bottom getter black plates) — $20 shipped CONUS
    • ALL PICS: https://imgur.com/a/utiZQ8K
    • Bought this as a complete impulse buy from Ebay as a “just in case I get a Lyr+” thing-- yeah, I was an idiot and had no idea what I was doing, and bought these before I bought a Lyr+! I paid $75 for them and never used them (don’t own a Lyr3/Lyr+ haha), so they should be still the same “NOS” as when I bought them.
      • Unfortunately I bought this so long ago the eBay page was archived, so the only details I have are what I could photograph and what I could get from the Ebay title

Schiit magni+ (Silver powder coated) — $65 shipped CONUS
    • ALL PICS: https://imgur.com/a/cC4cGSt
    • Will come with original packaging and stock linear wall wart
    • This was basically purely an impulse purchase. Only listened to it for ~5 hours total. It's more resolving, faster, and has a deeper soundstage than the piety, but lacks the bloom/midrange magic, and effortlessly open soundstage of the piety— so I think it makes a good complement to it (but still falls behind the XRK altoids amp quite a bit, which sounds a lot more euphonic/natural/effortless in comparison).
      • It was also loaned to a friend Azimuth to get his impressions/review on his youtube page (it’s the exact same one featured here: youtube.com/watch?v=iosfbK4B0Xc)
      • Was planning to sell it very soon after, but got lazy and completely forgot haha. It's been in the packaging since and is basically like new still.
    • Will let it go for $65 shipped CONUS (+PayPal Fees)

XRK Class A SE discrete Altoids Amp + Pup Dac Prototype Combo — $200 shipped
    • ALL PICS: https://imgur.com/a/pj5lgEL
    • Will come with a short right-angle 3.5mm-to-3.5mm connector cable, a usb-c to mini-B cable, and 6 rechargeable 9V batteries. Will also include a sennheiser 1/8” to 1/4” adapter cable
    • The altoids amp is a little scratched up (see pics), and the lid doesn't fully close (because of the oversized chip components used, see internals pics), but works and sounds great. Pup dac is in great condition.
    • This altoids amp is an absolute hidden gem— it’s not op-amp based like the CMOY altoids amps of old, but is fully-discrete, class-A based off of just two extrmeley tightly matched JFET input and two MOSFET output transistors. Zero global feedback as well!
      • This specific build was built by funch on head-fi (https://www.head-fi.org/threads/new...warmer-by-xrk971.833106/page-17#post-13442882) with Elna oversized capacitors and small mini heatsinks specifically for lower-impedance headphones (I used to use it with the pmx2 and it sounded so good)— but also found it has exceptional synergy with the JAR800 and other higher impedance headphones as well. I absolutely freaking loved this amp and it has a special place in my heart for how good it sounds.
      • (Of all the things I’m selling, I think this is the one I’ll miss the most because of how good it sounds and how special/unique it is).
      • Regarding sound, it has better extension, resolve, dynamics, and treble smoothness than the piety, but doesn’t have as wide/effortless of a soundstage as the piety and isn’t as bloomy.
      • Given its size, it has actually a surprising amount of power. It could easily power the JAR800 and the pmx2 (I believe it also powered all the ZMF headphones I had easily too), although I never tried it with inefficient planar stuff.
      • IMPORTANT NOTE/WARNING: when you turn it on make sure to twist the volume knob to turn it on-and-off a few times, until the LED light is bright; this is because this xrk altoids build features very large capacitors that takes some to charge up. Also when first turning it on, there may be a loud “pop” sound (the capacitors here are very large and discharges excess charge), so proceed with care!
    • The Pup Dac Proto was built by mullet and can be seen here: https://www.diyforums.org/PupDAC/PupDAChistory-2.php. Pup dac is no modi multibit 2, but is pretty balanced and has pretty good synergy with the altoids dac. It’s punchy and has pretty good resolution and staging width, but lacks in microdynamics/depth like a lot of the D/S dacs seem to lack. It makes a perfect stack with the XRK altoids amp and is powered directly from the usb, no external power supply needed— meaning this stack can be used very conveniently on the go.

Norne Vykari HD800 Cable with eidolic plugs — $500 shipped CONUS
    • ALL PICS: https://imgur.com/a/i9lrclo
    • Will come with a norne bag.
    • Details: https://www.norneaudio.com/litzheim...susvara-he1kse-he1000se-stellia-utopia-lcd-4-
      • Note this was a special sleeved version Norne did for me as a pre-release special kind of thing. It has a “Brazilian rosewood” triangle splitter thing that is very lightweight.
    • Looks in great condition— basically can’t really tell it’s been used much (I think the sleeving really helps here)
    • Used this originally with much love with the utopia, but then asked Trevor at Norne to reterminate it to the HD800 eidolic connectors.
      • I think this would work well for non-JAR hd800s (sdr or otherwise). Unfortunately, it doesn’t have the best synergy with the JAR800— it adds punch and body and some resolution at the expense of some upper treble response, which I feel would work exceptionally well with stock hd800s or SDR mods or the like, but I think smooths the treble a bit too much with the JAR800 and doesn’t make a good pairing with it (I think because jupiter modded the JAR800 with the stock cable in mind). Of course, though, YMMV.

    Pi2AES 1.0 + Nordost Blue Heaven 1.5M BNC/RCA Spdif — $350 shipped CONUS
    • ALL PICS:
    • Will come with the pi2aes fully assembled, with an included 128GB micro SD card and standard SD card adapter (ropieeXL already flashed onto the micro SD). It will also include a meanswell power supply with the appropriate adapter and a shielded power cord as well. Nordost Blue Heaven spdif cable will come in original box/packaging with the stock BNC-RCA adapters.
    • The pi2aes has a small crack at the top and still has the “protective films on” that give it a more satin/matte look, otherwise in great condition (see photos). Blue heaven cable is in excellent condition and looks basically like new.
    • Bought the pi2aes second-hand in like-new condition (the previous owner said they just built it but never set it up/used it themselves), with the intention of using it with the Andix again after hearing how good it sounded with the JAR800, but decided to quit the hobby before fully setting it up.
    • The Nordost Blue Heaven was purchased around that same time as well (having had good experiences with nordost spdif interconnects in the past— they are way more flexible/easier to manage than the stiffer bluejeans cables that seam highly recommended (always despised how stiff/unusable the bluejeans spdif cables were..) and sound noticeably tighter/more transparent as well, and the BNC/RCA adapters make it very adaptable/convenient to use with multiple dac setups.
      • Please note: this will still require an ethernet cable to fully setupm, which is not included
    • Asking for $350 shipped CONUS (+PayPal fees)
      • If you want just the Pi2AES, will let it go for $200 shipped (+PayPal fees). But I highly recommend the blue heaven nordost cable as well as it’s very good.

Modded Modi Multibit 2 (black) + Magni Piety Stack— $400 shipped CONUS
    • ALL PICS:
    • Will come with a modded modi mutlbit 2 (in black) and a schiit piety in original manufacturer’s packaging, a 3d-printed etsy brace, and a pair of mogami 2803 RCA interconnects with KLEI copper harmony plugs. Will also come with a pair of audiophile ninja rca interconnects.
    • Modi Multibit 2 was modded to have a OPA 2156 in the servo, and OPA 1656 op-amps in the output stage. Never tried the unmodded Modi Multibit 2, but this makes it sound punchy and dynamic and textured while also sounding pretty even and balanced (less punchy/slammy than the bifrost 2/64, though, though also more neutral and even with more even treble).
      • Note: I tried it with both the OPA 2156 and the OPA 1656 in the servo, and the 2156 sounded a lot more quick/transient zippy/articulate than it did with the 1656 in the servo, which was my preference.
    • Piety is serial number 999. In excellent physical condition, but I’ve noticed that the volume knob has a kinda “hashy" sound when turning the volume past 12. It has no affect on audio when not adjusting, just when adjusting. Seems to be more prominent when first turned on and lessen after a while. Judging by what others have said in the impressions thread, this seems like it might not be super uncommon? At any rate, just wanted to give full disclosure here. I always listened below 9 o’clock on the volume knob and so this never bothered me.
    • Mogami 2803 interconnects are fantastic, a huge upgrade from the straight-wire RCA ones, other mogami interconnects, and the audiophile ninja ones, and very close to the nordost heimdall 2 rca interconnects I used to have. Specifically added more sense of dynamism and resolve and sense of clarity whereas other interconnects sounded more veiled. Note that these are a bit stiff, and the stack unfortunately requires tape with the brace to get it to sit stably, but once settled everything is super compact and makes for a great stack, especially in “book” style. (this was $110)
    • Schiit stack bracket info: https://www.etsy.com/listing/1205802509/bracket-for-stacking-schiit-magni-modi
    • This stack had excellent synergy with the JAR800s and the JAR650B I had— also sounded good with the mini open.

Andix Audio HPA-45 DHT tube amp/WM8741 dac - $725 shipped CONUS
    • ALL PICS: https://imgur.com/a/smQL92j
      • Note two pairs of the national union tubes and the ken rad pair of 45 tubes were SOLD, so adjusted the price accordingly!
    • Will come with 6(!) matched-pair sets of 6AU6A tubes (3 gray plates, 3 black plates), two matched-pair sets of 45 tubes (1x national union pair, 1x RCA pair), one 12-conductor Grado X-series 1/8” to 1/4” adapter, one ZMF atmos S 1/8” to XLR adapter (discontiued, but was silver plated OCC copper I think), one AC power switch (since the andix has no power switch itself, and one 6.6A 12V powerstream power supply
    • Amp is in great condition— slight minor wear is see on the top edges of the transformers (see pics), but in otherwise great physical condition.
      • Full disclosure: amp very occasionally makes a slight whine sound that’s more audible with lower impedance headphones. It's rare and I can’t reproduce it with regularity-- usually it seems to happen when the amp has been on a long time (3-4 hours), though sometimes it never whines. Most of the time the amp is very quiet, but ust thought I'd give full disclosure for transparency.
    • This amp has been with me for several years now and I’ve loved it dearly. It gained new life after realizing it had insanely good synergy with the JAR800, way way more so than with the utopia. Highly highly recommend this amp/dac with high-impedance headphones!!
      • Also this is probably the most compact DHT tube amp on the market, and I think fixed-biasing current meter looks freaking cool haha.
    • Notable features/other details:
      • Uses 45 tubes and 6UA6A tubes, and features two-stage amplification and is DHT.
      • Uses fixed biasing which can be easily done using a flat-head screwdriver and monitoring the ampage meter (I can help out post-sale). Fixed biasing is 24mA (as labeled on the chassis).
      • Fixed biasing sounds tighter/punchier/less rounded than cathode biasing (at least that was my experience comparing it to the DNA Starlett, which is a cathode biased amp, and other tube amps I've heard, which tend to sound rounder in general).
        • I think fixed biased amps are very very rare for audio amps, so I think this makes the Andix more unique.
      • Is an all-in-one with built-in Wolfson WM5841 internal dac fed by usb, spdif rca, optical digital inputs, and aux 1/8" and phono analog inputs.
        • I repeat: it can be fed input direct from a CD player/turntable through the phono inputs!! And it can also be used directly from usb out to the andix.
        • Internal wolfson WM8741 dac is very good and synergizes well with the dac to provide a balanced sound. The amp does scale with other dacs, but honestly I would just use it with the internal DAC as it's good enough. In particular, sounds awesome when fed using a pi2aes!
      • Features 1/8" headphone output with selectable gain settings (high/low) and speaker outputs(!) (that can drive efficient speakers with up to 1.5W of power).
      • Accepts 12V external power supply (>4amps recommended). Over time, I've tried using it with very expensive $1000+ LPS, and while it does make it slightly sound more "powerful/resolving/dynamic", I found the differences were minimal and not worth heat/bulk of the excessively large linear power supply needed. The powerstream switching power supply included sounds great with the andix, while also allowing the andix to maintain its more compact form factor.
      • Very compact size of 8.5"x4.5" (about the size as half a sheet of printer paper!), which is remarkable for all the functionality packed in and makes it a very desk-friendly DHT tube amp
      • Output transformers are hand-wound by a guy who used to work at tango. They're the Andix Audio S-14 transformers with highlight core (a type of steel with good magnetic properties, iirc).
      • NOTE: the andix doesn't have a power switch ont he device itself-- use the included ac power switch (or just remove/insert the power plug to turn it off/on)
      • (btw, happy to talk more about this amp, I did so many hours of research because I was so excited/passionate about it when I got it haha. I'm really really hoping it goes to an owner who will appreciate it as much as I did!)

    Massdrop Hifiman HE-XX — $240 shipped CONUS
    • ALL PICS: https://imgur.com/a/AHxYxKc
    • Will come in original box but a different (nicer?) cable with a 1/8” adapter (and an included 1/8-1/4” brass adapter). Everything is in excellent condition, with no visible wear on the pads/headband (see pics). This was received as part of a trade deal.
      • The original owner received it themselves as a gift, but didn't use it much since they had other headphones, so when they traded it to me it was in like-new condition. I listened to it briefly initially to test it out, and while it does sound really nice and balanced with euphonic mids and really nice planar bass, I ended up preferring the more dynamic sound of headphones like the HD800 more. So I barely listened to it myself and it's been in the box since.

I'll take the Lyr if it's still available.

Oh wait erroneous, just to be clear it's just the Lyr+ _tubes_, not any amp or anything. But if you want it it's yours! I'll PM you/DM you on discord.

And thank you!! I haven't posted any art in a long time as I've just been studying/practicing (working through nicolaides currently), but yeah, https://www.instagram.com/noticingpurple/ and https://www.instagram.com/yuukolele/ are where I'll likely post in the future. All of it is quite bad/embarrassing/very old and I know I could do better, but it's there

damn... 2 JAR800's and I'm tapped out from Christmas shopping. I know these won't last until mid-Jan, so some lucky soul will get them.

GLWS and with the art! Sometimes I feel like the real winners are the ones that graduate from the hobby...

Not sure if it's just the algorithm being ass (thanks, Suckerborg) but I've actually not been seeing as much of your art as before. Still, from memory you were already making grand progress a long while back, so I can't wait to see what comes of you dedicating more time and passion to the craft.

Hope to see you around hereabouts still just to chat, even if only now and again. As you noted, abstaining from gear talk does not preclude talking about music, and I've got a few random questions about inks and brushes brewing :p

Nah it's not the algorithm-- I literally just haven't posted anything in over a year, largely because I've been doing "boring studies" like form rotations, many many gesture studies, and other stuff like "modelled drawing" that isn't really exciting to post on insta but super helpful for improving visual thinking skills. I'll probably stick around more on discord than sbaf since it's more informal and casual, but I'll def be lurking because I can't help it XD

Thank you dasman!! yeah gaspasser already sent an interest PM for the LSN JAR800, couldn't be more happy to sell that special headphone to him if he wants it, I think it'd be a heavenly pairing with his starlett...

Is anyone else just a little bit anxious that the Magni is ever so slightly slipping out of the brace?

nah not just you, it's not stable unless you tape it and also use those sticky non-slip feet (which I took off and cleaned of course for these photos)-- but once you do those things it makes an epic extremely-low-footprint stack! (how I used it for many months)

(also, Lyr+ tubes and the LSN JAR800 are both sold! both to really good sbaf friends)

Your amazing gear will easily sell, but losing you is beyond that. I hope you still continue being PURE for the love of the hobby and social experiment. :D

Love & Well wishes. I have you in muh DM's, so it should be easy to reach out to you.

I really... REALLY need to do the same* with selling my overwhelming amount of gear.

Your messages have always been good on the mental ;). I really appreciate the kind words <3

Also super super random but someone ended up really wanting some pairs of 45 tubes o_o, so it will now come with two pairs instead of five, and dropping the price of the andix hpa-45 a bit to $725 shipped!

The other JAR800 and the xrk altoids amp + pup dac have both sold!

I have a feeling the other stuff here probably won't sell here super quickly, so will open up everything to everybody and will likely post stuff to head-fi over the weekend. I'm super happy the core good stuff (the JAR800s and the xrk altoids amp) have sold to good friends though :)

Stuff like the andix hpa-45 I would absolutely love to go to a friend, but it seems like given the obscurity of the amp makes a hard sell >_o. No matter how good I feel it is, something like the pietus maximus would likely be a much better buy for most folks here. I will likely post this on head-fi as well.

Cheers and thanks again everyone for all the interest and kind words! Hope you all have a happy holidays! :D

Very belated bump, but everything has sold except for the drop x hifiman edition XX. As I'd like to move it sooner than later to free up some space and funds for art, please take it for $240 shipped paypal fees included!
