Just looking out for my friend

EDIT: I see. I'm not going to get into this on a thread like this.

Agree on the BS, but on the other hand, how long should it take your average lowbrowed dipshit to realize the 50% haircut he took on that shiny new widget two months after HF hyped the shit out of it might mean something was awry in the first place? That sucks, but I don't want mass personal audio commoditization either; I want continual innovation in the space ... and people to come to their senses. The first two generally conflict with each other. SBAF is a great resource for the latter. That said ... the HD6XX is a great thing for the masses (who hopefully know not to drive it with their Galaxy S7s) and the perfect product to commoditize. Just think, it won't be long before we see fully modded 6xx/650s on the market for under 200 bucks.

    As an aside...
HF, to me, is more like a credit rating agency than a creator of monopoly. He's relatively unregulated (save for here), he has no oversight, and people need to lose money by getting burned before they can truly learn that he might not be telling the whole truth, that his forum chatter might not be comprised of everyday people simply sharing their takes, and that nearly everything is being "pushed" rather than "reviewed". He's a talented marketeer, and does what he does well. But he takes a lot of people down with him. And some or even most of them might not know it happened to them, otherwise they'd speak with their collective wallets. But HF, IMO, for all its influence still ultimately doesn't move the market in the long term. It is however an amazing hype machine and certainly gets a lot of people to open their wallets a first time, and maybe even a second time... but the third time around, well, shame on them. They must buy Ginsu knives and Vitamixers too.

31 posts already today and the day isn't even over yet (at least here in the US). He's becoming the Music Alchemist of SBAF.

Last time I mentioned SBAF on HD800 thread long time ago I got an email from cockwong I think within 5 minutes and deleted my post for "reasons and hope you understand".

I'd like to hear the "reasons" put into words.

Edit: Honestly and plainly put into words.

I think they run a database parser ... and that their regular expressions have a few holes...

You post was deleted because Marv is trying to destroy me. I currently own a monopoly mindshare in the personal audio space. I find it unacceptable that SuperBAF is chipping away at this. SuperBAF also makes my marketing efforts much less effective if some of those guys don't like the stuff I'm shilling. I am also threatened by SuperBAF measurements because they provide objective proof when something is seriously awry. And also because I am a measurement noob with a very expensive measurement rig, but really no clue of what I am doing because I suck at maths. I am also paranoid and believe that this is a zero sum game. There can only be one impresario, and that one is me.

I've got an HD600, modified with some foam to reduce the 2-4khz emphasis. Should I get the HD6XX, or are the differences likely to be too subtle to matter?

If I remember correctly, once upon a time posts mentioning Massdrop would be deleted on HF. I think it was against the rules to discuss any group buy sites, but still. I think only ended up joining Massdrop when I started lurking at Changstar.

Depends on a lot of things, like the rest of your equipment. Why don't you head over to the New Member thread and introduce yourself. Lots of info here that could guide you, just do a little reading.

I don't know what happened. I heard rumors (not from anyone at Massdrop) that they weren't getting along. For a a few drops, CS / SBAF had exclusive access. Now Jude makes videos and breaks press embargoes to present Massdrop stuff.

Honestly - I'm not impressed and Sennheiser is fumbling.

If there was a real actual measurable audible difference to be made they should bring out a "HD675" or whatever the heck they want to call it, not eff around with massdrop specials. And instead of effing around with the HD800S (which has low-end distortion) they should take the fight to Hifiman, Audeze, MrSpeakers... whatever... with an actual high-end replacement.

Seriously Senn.. what are you doing? You're still my Nr.1 Headphone brand but you need to step up your game and re-named and re-colored massdrop specials ain't going to cut it. Have you looked at our HD650 mod thread? We've pratically done half the work for you. Sheesh already.

They seem to be spending most of their resources releasing mid-fi headphones lately. Hopefully they're just doing that to fill the time before they release a new line of truly hi-fi headphones.

The thing is, they don't. They have their bases covered with the 5xx, 6x0 and 800 headphones already, they need real competition to step up their game.

I highly doubt a $4,000 Utopia is going to cut that much into their HD 800 sales, when they're $2,500 less retail and still very competitive in the high end market. Considering the outstanding performance of the 600 and 650 at their relative price points, other manufacturers are still struggling to keep up at this range as well.

It's up to other manufacturers to actually give Sennheiser the incentive.
