Saw this mentioned on Wired and passing it along. Phonocut home vinyl recorder is being demo'ed on Oct. 14 and 15 in Hollywood. Anyone here close enough to call, make a reservation and go have a look and listen to see if it has merit?

Pretty cool, but what's the point of it?

This looks fun. I'm really curious as to how this thing will handle any track/source not mastered for vinyl. Suppose they've come up with some solution that sort of works... otherwise this is something that most audiophools will mock and ignore.

So I'm sitting here listening to their demo track where they supposedly compare the digital recording, the traditional vinyl recording and then their new vinyl home recorder version back to back on one track. Even on the crappy speakers of my Lenovo PC the Phonocut version sounds so flipping narrow and less dynamic. And that's their marketing version? Wonder what it really sounds like.

I also agree with @spwath regarding the "why?" (because they can?) and @Soups as I will now ignore this.

Hipster analog podcasts. You're probably too mainstream to have heard of it...
