    Regarding Black Schiit Units:
Soooo... could there be more black gumbies in the future? (went to work, got back home hoping to buy one and gone)

The Bifrost Multibit's were all over the Schiit table today at RMAF: with A2, Val2, Lyr2.
so it was not possible to do comparisons with previous or 4490 BiFrost and "not fair (ha!)" vs. the stack of Gungnir Multibit + Mjolnir2.

that being said the LOW price of Bifrost Multibit shocked me and other Denver pyrates, so very glad to see that!

a lot of us talking to Mike and the Schiit UK guy were replied with: "yah we miss Jason too and are going to kick his ass for not coming."
    so, there's that. (full disclosure)

now if only there were fewer Ether-C at the table. Which do nothing but clog up audio delivery. ug
(will save that rant for the RMAF thread)

I think that was me. They disappeared from the site after I ordered one.

I know what DAC I'm saving up for. I have an Emotiva Big Ego on the way for my work rig to hold me over for a few months.

Multibifrost shall be in my future!

wow that is awesome! I think he is confusing the ragnarok with the Gungnir Multibit though haha

Good find! Now Mike and him need to link up, compare notes and design a new chip :D

I'd take Asgard2 over the valhalla2 (stock tubes) with the hd800.

It's slightly warmer sounding, a little more fleshed out. I don't deny that rolling tubes can change that about the Valhalla2, but at that point I'm spending considerably more than the Asgard2.

That's money that could be spent on... a multibit bifrost!

With the HD800? Valhalla 2 is warmer than Asgard 2, and definitely clearer and better articulated. Asgard 2 is quite harsh (although great value and unmatched at its price point for solid states).

That's definitely not what I heard at all.

Wait... are you Roddy, or are you attempting to quote the dude in that thread? I'm trying to decide how impressed I need to be about you.

Oh schiit! You're right! Sorry about the confusion!

Pretty awesome to see the DAC designer comment!

I was wrong. It got here before noon. Wow.
In the past I've regretted making posts about gear too quickly so I'm going to give this some time.
I'll just say that I've had a perma shit-eating grin on my face for the last couple hours. Will see if I can hear any difference after leaving it on overnight.

Some fun facts about the AD5547CRUZ DAC used in Bifrost Multibit (for super techies only):

    1. It features an integral nonlinearity plot that's better than +/-0.5LSB. This is a spec they never even bother doing for audio DACs, because (a) it would be terrifying in the case of audio multibit DACs and (b) it is not possible to measure delta-sigma DACs in this way, since the output depends on the preceding and following samples.

    2. The THD performance is actually scary good--far better than 16 bits. 16 bit level THD, from a theoretically perfect 16-bit DAC, is -96dB. Most 16 bit DACs from the Jurassic Age of Digital didn't hit this number. The AD5547 is -104dB, much better than 16 bit--and its noise level is down at the 22 bit level. And this is without the deglitching tricks applied to Gungnir Multibit and Yggdrasil.

    3. It is a parallel input DAC. As in, the entire 16-bit word has to be written in at once, on 16 separate pins. This is very bizarre, since most DACs are serial in. Just one way that these are NOT easy to use for audio.

Mine arrived at noon; It's been on for a few hours now. I also want to spend some time with it, as well as let it have a couple days to settle in, before going all googoo zomgcopter, but as Mrip said, I've been wearing a shit-eating grin for some time now.

Ok, I said I wasn't going to fall all over myself about this, but dang.

This is like night and day - I'm coming from the Modi 2. The difference is ridonculous. At least now I know I'm not DAC deaf. I am new to this hobby, so I am actually surprised whenever I can hear these things.

I hear so much more in the decay of the guitars in the beginning of Hotel California, a track that Marv had recommended to me some time ago. Crikey I'm re-experiencing this album.

I notice that I listen at lower volume with this, and everything stills sound more alive.

    I'm using: Wyrd -> brand spankin' new Beef Roast Multibit - > Valhalla 2 -> HD650

EDIT - just noticed I had put hd600 above. Edited to show that I use an hd650.
