Tubes, Tubes, Tubes -- Resources for Rollers!

That's so weird, I put down a note to try those two exact input tubes when I get home tonight! Now I will try them w the TS/Chatham Gas7g too! I remember liking that tube a bit more than some of the others...

 

Trying to catch a few examples that I haven't seen listed so far:

12au7 type:
Amperex welded plate 45 degree slant getter
Telefunken G73R (it also looks pretty cool with the black shielding, but easy to fake, beware!)
Tungsram welded plate circle gettter (MUCH more affordable than the other two)


6080 holy grail type:
Western Electric 421A

Honestly, though, as a couple people have mentioned, cleaning up my source and chain made a bigger difference than TOTL vs "good" tubes. I got more bang for my buck moving my system location away from some wifi interference than I did with some shmancy GEC tubes.

 

looking for recommendations for trustworthy tube sellers with fair prices t. I have used Vintage tubes for the last 25 years with good results he just takes forever to ship the tubes out.

I second Brent Jesse. Langrex on eBay is great too but their tubes are dwindling where you can’t find any of the better/unicorn tubes. There’s a guy in Greece I’ve dealt with before and I’ve bought some very hard to find tubes from him. I can give you his contact info you’re interested. I have a few tubes as well (bunch of power tubes and a few nice driver tubes).

 

any recommendations on what to buy for a quad of kt88 tubes, great sound for a resonable pirce

I just asked Brent Jesse what his favorite new production KT88 tubes are a week ago and he said the JJ Blue Glass version KT88 and he sells them matched really well himself. Let me know if you want his email address. I don't know how important matching is, but it's good to support Brent because he's really good guy. But you can also get the same tubes at TubeDepot.

for NOS, the GEC's are the best probably. But I also like Tung Sol. NOS will be expensive though to get a Quad.

Looking for some guidance on power tubes, Im getting a Lance Cohcrane kt88, 6550, el34 or kt77 power tubes. I am really only familiar with el34. Its a speaker amp and Im not sure which to try and what to buy if anyone has some expertise would be appreciated.

I just picked up some PSvane EL34PH that are fantastic. They replaced a set of Gold Lion KT77 and have a much more natural sound while still providing all the details. Worth looking into.

I will be ordering from Brent Jesse since I need some 12AX7’s and can’t believe his selections!

I use Brent Jesse also also like the tube store in ontario. They have been friendly and respnsive.

 

I've bought from Brent Jesse as well, and also Kevin Deal at Upscale -- neither of whom have ever disappointed me.

I think it’s time to replace the 2 6x4 tubes in ECBA power supply. What are some good ones I should search for? Fell free to PM me if you have a pair you would like to sell.

 

I've had good luck with GE 6x4 in my PH16 phono and SP9 preamp. I tried a Sylvania and it sounded a bit harsh in my setup. Tubedepot has some NOS JAN for pretty cheap.
