So I've decided I'm more of a video over photo guy these days. Of course to document the kids but also things like nature, sports and maybe some tutorial I want to capture for someone.

What do you guys do for camera audio?

I am far more a video guy than photo guy, but still learning what I need for my new full frame setup. For audio, I have been using one of these: https://www.amazon.com/Rode-VideoMicro-Compact-Camera-Microphone/dp/B015R0IQGW/ courtesy of a great deal from @philipmorgan. It is a tiny bit better than the dual mic setup on my Sony A7C, but didn't quite have the reach I was hoping for a recent outdoor wedding. I might look to get the next step up in size (still need things as small as possible), but still debating since I don't often need to catch voices, just ambient sound. Probably all you would need for general use. For tutorials or interviews, wireless lavalier mics or doing a voice over later might be better.

I am so much not a video man that I forget the camera even does it!

But one of my fellow amateur concert photographers in this city has a neat device: wireless mics that he can sneak onto the corners of the stage ---or, I guess, whatever else he is videoing, and a receiver that sits on the camera.

He has a good day job, so I guess that cost of gear is not a big issue.
