WTB: EAR 834P Phono Preamp

I'd like to buy an EAR 834P. Don't have a preference for black or chrome.

Those resistors and caps are more expensive these days than they were in (2008?). The way those caps look mounted or actually not mounted looks kinda suspect, the leads are just wires though. Eh I dunno, I wouldn't really advise paying any significant amount more than standard second hand rate personally.

 

These come up for sale on a semi regular basis. You can get the chrome for this price or a little more. Personally, I would wait for one that is stock. Having heard a few pieces of EAR gear, they are voiced really nicely I'm skeptical of upgrades.

Mitch is a good guy, but he has a sound he likes. If you like the EAR voicing, then I'd also advise avoiding the "upgraded" units which will have a different flavor.

That said, I've never heard one of Mitch's upgraded EAR units.

Not a bad price. Maybe he'd sell for less without the external transformer.
