Anyone know of an authorized dealer that has any of these leftover new in box? Seems supply is dried up entirely since they were discontinued.

Thought maybe one of the little shops might still have one left.

You may not have much luck finding new ones - Sennheiser discontinued the original HD 800 some 18 months ago now.

I thought it was even longer than that TBH. But figured I'd ask anyway. I had one at one point and sold it and wanted to get another.

If you absolutely want NOS, I bought a pair here in Taiwan several months ago. Int'l shipping outwards isn't too bad. Send me a PM if you want me to look into it.

This might explain why you can't grab a pair for a reasonable price anymore :(

Thx for the offer (seriously), I think I'm just gonna get HD800S after thinking about it. It will be a closer match to my HD820 and it seems no deals left to be had on closeout HD800. Intl, shipping is one thing yeah but then you got potential customs duties, lost in the mail or delayed forever w/covid, etc, will probably end up costing in same ballpark as Hd800 S.

Whatever you decide. But IMO it's a matter of getting the headphone you want. HD800 has better bass quality. As long as you make an informed decision, all's good.

Warranty is another possible issue as they'll have been purchased overseas and I don't know if Senn USA will provide support. That wasn't a concern for me (though coverage would have been local) as I immediately voided the warranty by modding them.

I've had no issues shipping to the US with EMS recently, though the possibility of having to pay duty should be factored in.

Put up a WTB listing on HF and see what comes up.

I've owned both headphones and had them in house at the same time. The OG was better IMHO. The SDR mod increases the lead for the OG. And the sonarworks plugin for the OG makes it a no contest.

TBH I'd rather have the original HD800, I think, which is part of the reason I havent bought an hd800s. It would offer more contrast to my hd820.

Overseas purchase risks warranty issues and unexpected large customs duty, plus the pandemic delivery wildcard

Used purchases have been hit or miss with me. Plus some of them can be up to 10yr old depending when bought since came out in 2009. Guess you can get a square trade warranty but after you add in the cost of balanced cable it's almost same price as hd800s for a good condition one, with full warranty and new headphones smell to boot.

Then there is the paint chipping, it seems this is problematic with all of them.

I wish Sennheiser would just reissue the original in a 10yr anniversary or something, maybe fix paint while at it.

I would actually want one stock, cause my hd820 already has the 6khz peak tuned down. The hd800 would be used in my case for an interesting alternative when the 6khz peak adds brilliance / air on some tracks where it's not overly offensive.

For my listening environment 80% of time I need closed back so hd820 will remain my primary listening headphone.

Appreciated, I am really looking for a stock unit with the classic 6khz ear bleeding spike :] as i already have an hd820 with the more reserved treble and looking for a sharper contrast

The mods are reversible so you can just ask for them removed.

Better yet; try them with the mod and without and see what your ears tell you.

I owned hd800 [original] around 4yr ago , a/b demo vs hd800S in Senn store, and own hd820 now. The 6khz peak is not good for some material but makes other material sparkle and sound more airy. Idea would be to have hd820 for warmer/meatier/more intimate presentation and hd800 for brighter/leaner/more large scale presentation depending on content/scenario.
