Anybody have a stock Focal Utopia 4m cable in mint condition lying around? Please let me know. Hoping to get one to have reterminated to 4-pin XLR for use with Ragnarok.

    Thanks,
    -zonto

I have one, but you know they retail for $1100. Totally overpriced. Also, they are easy to reterminate, so just reterminate yours.

    That's crazy, why that expensive?
    It has:
    Neutric 1/4" connector: $10 ish
Utopia connectors: can't be that much, I'll give it a way too expensive $100 for the pair of connectors. That leaves $990 for just the wire, and labor. No way.

No one has been able to get an answer from Focal why the cable cost so much.

I couldn’t find a price online, but cannot believe it’s that much...

Any recommendations on where to get reterminated? Not a DIY guy with stuff like this.

Anyone that ever made a cable can do it. Just get the 4-pin male plug from markertek (~$5). Unscrew the current plug, then solder. If you can’t find anyone, I’d be happy to do it for you for free. You just get the plug and mail it all to me. PM if you are interested.

I will be away from home June 3-12, but happy to do it after that. If you want, we can snip off 6” of cable and make an adapter. Just buy a 4-pin female too. Alternative, just buy a foot of Canare L-4E6S for a dollar and the femal plug, and we can make it out of that.

I also have one too, but like what @AllanMarcus said, I would simply have the stock cable reterminated instead of buying a new cable.

I didn’t know the stock cable was $1100, and if so it is definitely overpriced, but regardless of price I feel the stock cable is decent enough to get you by. The only fault I find in the cable is that it is way too long (it’s 3M not 4M, but still too long for me). If I had to reterminate it for a balanced amp, I would cut it so that it’s 2M and use the remaining 1M as an adapter cable.

FWIW, another stock headphone cable which is decent is that of the HD650/6XX. For my HD6XX, I had the stock cable reterminated with a Neutrik 4-pin male XLR for balanced use.

I suck at DIY too, so I asked a local cable maker to reterminate my cable (I provided him with the XLR plugs which I ordered separately). You could ask anyone with basic soldering skills, or any aftermarket cable maker (such as Headphone Lounge, DHC, Norne, etc.) to get the job done.

If you do get your stock cable reterminated, I would suggest leaving the SE connector as-is, cut about 1-2ft in, and then solder the 4 pin XLR on the stock cable, leaving the 1-2 ft cable terminated in SE. That way if you later decide to go SE, you can solder a female 4-pin XLR to the 1-2 ft cable, and have the 4pin XLR to SE adapter going.

Edit: Just read the similar suggestion above.

Edit 2: Or you can buy something like this?
