His inexperience is really showing. Well, that and he probably listens to anime OSTs, which are not exactly reference recordings.

I've never heard of him before. Last week I read about him on here and watched one of his videos. I must admit, it's very entertaining... Very unique review methodology.

This must be by far the most annoying person to ever have done a review.
Especially that fact that he keeps on insisting that those are not headphones but "Earspeakers"

Oh god, how many times can a person really say "earspeakers" non-ironically?

FWIW I don't actually hate the Z Reviews guy. As long as you can ignore the incessant hyping of everything, misogynistic wallpapers, and bizarre sound descriptions, he's not all that bad. I think there is a place for bumbling idiots (see: Top Gear, DigitalRev) giving their honest opinions on things, as long everyone is quite clear they they are entertainment first, information second. Besides, the world needs a HP reviewer who actually cares about ergonomics and cables.

At least, that was my opinion before watching the Stax review. What rubbish.

This is after breaking the seal to cause a midbass hump and subbass roll off.

What's wrong with him preferring the 207 over the SR-007, and what's wrong with him listening to anime soundtracks? People have their own preferences.

A stax shill would proclaim the SR-007 to be even better than the 207 in every possible way-- after of course spending a long time saying why the 207 is better than any other headphone he's tried.

I strongly doubt Z Reviews as any blind loyalty towards any one company, he just likes what he likes.

Zeos would never recommend the SR-007 as he wouldn't be able to sell it back to his viewers like he can with the SR-207. He pimps the O2 for a reason.

I'm not especially fond of video reviews for audio, and his shaky head camera is hard to watch.

I was going to try and list the many problems with the review, but I drifted off about halfway. I don't need to hear his insistence on calling them "earspeakers", and I really don't need his horrifically mangled interpretations of how headphones operate.
From this video, I can't see his audio experience or anything that would show competence. I got a description of the physical product, construction and fit. Important parts of any headphone, but not enough.

What's so outlandish about saying the 2170 has better low end than the TH900? What does 'better low end' mean to you?

For some reason it seems like most people think more = better when it comes to bass. This isn't nearly as rampant with other parts of the audible spectrum. For instance, the SA5k is nothing but treble but you never see it mentioned as having the best treble, that's usually reserved for stats/Qualia. Rarely do I see somebody say an overly bassy headphone has bad bass, even when it's further from neutral than a 'bass light' HP in many instances. When people talk about HPs with the best bass, I usually see people mentioning crap like the L3000, PS1000, Abyss (actually excellent), THy00, even XB500. Instead I think they should be mentioning things like HEK, Abyss, 009, 007, HE90, SR-Omega, Qualia and HE-6, etc.

When I judge a HPs bass I'm looking past the sheer quantity and looking heavily at the actual quality of the bass. Is there any texture or detail to the bass? Is it able to portray many different shades or is it merely one-note? Is it clean and low distortion? If you don't care about quality, you can add all the bass you want with an EQ.

I think the TH-900 actually has a very clean bass but there's way too much. The first time I heard it, Marv asked me what I thought and I think I said something like "These are clean sounding Beats" and I still think that. For a basshead I think it's definitely one of the best picks out there, but when discussing 'better', at least as long as you're holding something resembling neutrality as a standard, it has to be knocked for having far too much bass tilt. Comparing those two headphones I can easily see somebody preferring either. On the plus side they're both very clean sounding but the SR-207 has a little more bass texture and a more even response. The reviewer's mod admittedly throws things a bit out of whack, but the subbass roll off he's getting probably isn't an issue for most of his tracks.

Directed to the newer people in general: It's a little disheartening to try to find new content here and constantly see 'omg did you see what this guy said' posts/threads in an attempt to get cheap likes via group think baiting. I can understand that happening every now and then, but it's becoming way too frequent. Stop worrying about gathering likes. This forum is above that stuff, leave it for reddit.

Note: I'm aware I wouldn't have made this post if it didn't involve defending the honor of my precious Stax. :D

    Yeah, that old chestnut.

PM me if you'd like my defence of using "misogynistic". In any event I apologise for unthinkingly using a politically charged term on an audio website :)

(PS: Woo there's another Kiwi on SBAF)
