Funniest thing so far in that thread was when someone said they were selling their Z1R (in a "saying goodbye" and "only because I need the money" type of way) and they practically had an online memorial service right there in thread. People consoling and giving, "listen to one more for me" types of posts.

Yeah, but still the fella that buys your S19 is only 1/10 the sucker the person that bought DecentLevi's Feliks Elise is. I wonder how many scorch marks needed to be scoured off that poor amp...

 

You should post the ad from the DAC's point of view, that it has been suffering at the hands of cruel SBAF abusers who have been denigrating it as a stinking pile of crap and please, please, please could someone who truly feels the spirit of HiFi buy it and rescue it out of mercy. You can post screen shots of abusive reviews to support the sale.

 

Speaking as an outlier (however I measure) whose time on head-fi barely counts, I think Jude is going to defeat his wallet with his ego. Cook his own goose. Not get away with this crap forever.

 

This seems different. Unless the guy is willing to post quite the whopper. I hope I am misinterpreting the post and his daughter has not gone without for two years (or some portion of that) and he is just now getting to the point where he feels the need to sell his Z1R.

Then the consolation posts follow, like @DigMe described. All centered around his pending loss of the Z1R and how he will be missed if he quits posting in the thread. (He was quite the Z1R champion.)

 

"Sonic Defender" falls head over heels in love with his gear only to sell them off and #sadface remenisce about them... he's been doing that ever since i was aware of him when i joined HF a few years ago... one of those people that meant every word until they don't.

 

He is currently hanging by his toes. He made the ultimate mistake of mentioning this site, and is paying the ultimate price, slowly and painfully.

Well, sounds a lot like the modus operandi of one Shillan the Flipping Dilah: Buy (or is it extort?) expensive stuff, praise the shit out of them on the forums, and sell them back couple of weeks later. Is he too a loud proponent for blind testing and a crusader against the rising cost of "audiophile" equipment? I wonder if we found our next HF Shill of the Month winner...

 

An educated guess would be that it was done for the $$$$...

The Headfi model =

1) Remove "Appreciation" from the thread titles to imply that critical thinking and criticism of a given product is acceptable if warranted. In a sense this is saying "you dear reader can read these impressions and use them to inform your buying decisions because the opinions expressed are a fair representation of the product's performance"

2) Moderate the threads as you see fit to push your desired narrative and drive some monetary gains... sponsors are paying for ads and perhaps "protection" within the threads too.

3) Sell, Sell, Sell.... and discredit those who may get in the way of your selling

This is all 100% conjecture but not that much of a stretch IMO.

 

Yes he was (and maybe he will continue). His post makes it sound like he (finally) decided he should sell them to help provide for his daughter and pay his taxes.

 

Yeah I know. I was dumbfounded about that one. I didn't say his name because he seems so desperate for our attention based on earlier posts.

 

When I'm thinking of buying something and have pretty-much decided to do so, even one negative review can spoil my dream. An "appreciation" thread is a nice, safe place to be. Positive reinforcement! Yeah!

I accept the explanations of what Jude is trying to do (sell, sell, sell, etc) but wonder if he is actually as clever at it as he thinks.

 

I hear the FTC has some thoughts on getting sponsorship from manufacturers, and then (actively) promoting their wares on the forums:

I am now beginning to wonder if Jude taking out his big measurement schlong out for a ride, with a splash, wasn't simply a masterful way to draw attention to some recently acquired sponsorships, with the Z1R, Tyll, measurements, value and the state of the hobby being only irrelevant and distracting after-thoughts... After all, even @Tyll Hertsens joined the fun and gave a thumbs up of approval for the schlong: "I think your measurement rig is SWEET!"
