I was going to call TMI, but in the name of science, please provide details and technical drawings.

@jexby needs all the help he can get.

Just knock it off with the noise, it's not wanted.

I'd take this to the General Advice forum. Otherwise the DV 336 SE is warm and syrupy, and from impressions it looks like the Lyr 3 is going to be fast and neutral, which means quite brighter than your current amp. Certainly a step up in resolution.

I am imagining people with delivery pizza warmers to put their Lyr 3's in to reduce warmup time.

    Hi

Is it worth upgrading from Jotunheim Multibit to Lyr 3 Multibit?

    Phones: Beyerdynamic DT 1990 Pro

    Thank you

@dmckean44 is right. We're getting too much noise in here. Maybe a mod can clean this up a bit?

From what I understand, if the levels are different, you really cannot compare them.

Sure I can. It just makes the comparison more difficult.

Ok, technically correct. Let me rephrase :)

If the levels aren't the same, result of the comparison are probably not valid.

Maybe you could alter the output from the computer to adjust for the Modi Multibit (god, not momby).

Dude. If I were doing measurements I'd agree, but these are subjective impressions. :p

Listen to music. Click mouse button, flip switch, nudge volume knob. Listen and compare. I just did it twice, about 1 second each time. Still a noticeable sound stage difference.

Let's not get into the hyper-scientific-subjective-irrationality that plagues /r/headphones. No, I didn't do a double blind comparison. I can't create a test environment for myself while masking the purpose of the test from myself, all while measuring my reaction to the test while at the same time not knowing what outcomes I should be testing for... all of which is the whole point of double blind testing. (I'm not saying that's what you're asking me to do, I'm just saying the peeps on Reddit are f'ing idiots.) I listen, and note the differences. It's that easy.

The Lyr gets toasty! I ordered these to hopefully increase airflow below the amp. I'm sure it's fine as is, but... eh. Why not.

Nice find! f**k if those were "audiophile grade" they'd be $20/ea.

Suspend it from the ceiling and stick one of those old Zalman passive CPU coolers to the bottom? :3

They're only like twice the weight and triple the size of the amp.

On the built-in DACs, I get the feeling that the AKM4490 card should be worthy of consideration. I have both cards at home, but would probably need until the end of this week to say. Here's the deal. The AKM4490 is probably more resolving than the mulitbit. The inexpensive Modi Multibit was never a super resolving DAC. The reason you'd go this direction is because of the darker tonal balance, minimized treble fuckery, and taste of the filter (imaging precision and layering). I never felt the AKM4490 based Modi DACs or similar AKM4452 SDAC were flat-out inferior to Modi Multibit as they better resolved low level information and sounded clearer.

Like whiplash, whoas me, will the MB heat up in less than a week? -- let's buy little nipples to keep heat down... haha... The multibit chip is sitting 1 centimeter away from a friggin' vietnam war era 200 volt vacuum tube with heaters. I bet strategically placed! |\/| But yeah, if its burning hot on the bottom raise it up.

    Ok, cool.

I built a couple of switch boxes that let me do the same thing. Hoping to compare the Mainline with the Dragon soon :)

    This was helpful. Thanks!

And yes, it may be time for an all tube amp.

Is all the heat underneath the amp? Mine barely gets warm on the top, which is all I've paid attention to.

Depending on your phones the DNA Sonnett 2 for sale could be wonderful. They are such bargains.
