It’s not just ugly. I spent half my night trying to get it to play anything and never got a single sound out of my DAC. Tried all sorts of settings and configurations. Total waste of my time.
Hmmm, sounds like something got borked. You run the desktop app which acts as a server, inspect a library folder and then run the client which connects to localhost and you get a basic player. Tweak filters and shapers. How far did you get?
@GoodEnoughGear App launched, settings set, folder scanned and processed for library. Client on local host shows scanned music. When I try to play the client either doesn’t respond at all, or loads the track then stops before playback begins.
The more convoluted it is, the more the audiophiles know it's really working. "It grinds my computer to a standstill! It's clearly doing big things!" I know a lot of reasonable people like it too, just sayin.
@Woland I copied those settings exactly, still can’t select a song in the client. It shows me the album cover art and track listing, but clicking play does nothing and clicking on a track does nothing.
I am using the trial version and I can get it to play only certain formats properly, mainly FLAC. But whenever it worked, the controls were extremely laggy. The pause play functions take 5 seconds to kick in and the seek bar is a joke.
I thought I had the issue replicated by running HQPlayer Desktop from the image instead of copied to the harddrive... but then the music started. the only other thing I tend to do differently is drag and drop files individually rather then use the folder scan.
One reason I moved to the pi implementation is because once set up to work with Roon, you don't need to interact with the HQPlayer interface anymore, which is a relief. Also, the pi setup lets you stream over networks with UPNP and over USB like a Super-Eitr.
haha @Azteca Ive thought about the idea of using like 100-300 watts of computer power, continuously, just to oversample your music in real time a lot over the past couple weeks, as I read a bit more about hqplayer and the holo may
