Might have to do with head shape, too.
I have a narrow head, so the headphones don't clamp very hard. They get more bassy if I press them against my skull.
I drive them with a Phonitor X, until I get my DSHA-3F :D
Ah, that's it.. I tested em on my Phonitor X and had the exact same results, not overly bassy, slightly U shaped signature but very pleasing. Used a JDS atom and they were bassy.
Head shape is definitely a factor. I guess fat-heads get phat bass, we pin-heads get thin-bass. With headband adjustment, bass on my pair fits my personal preference profile.
Actually, the Stellia is quite a bit leaner than the Clear. This seems to contradict the reviews I read, which all say the Stellia is definitely warmer... @atomicbob do you confirm?
It has been awhile since I gave the Clear a good listen. I need to have them both on the same system to assess properly. Good experiment for the weekend.
I just picked up a Stellia locally yesterday and via the 3F it is definitely not bass tilted. Presence is there but doesn't bleed into rest of the spectrum. Maybe the 3F controls it. I also apparently have a small head as I use both the Stellia and Utopia on the smallest setting. I haven't tried it on a different amp. Have you received your 3F?
No, not yet :/
I think small heads work better coz the pads don’t get as squished. Pressing on the cups definitely increase the bass and it becomes boomy.
