Black Widow [Update] - Second round official, 100 amps total, single chassis

Can you give us your thoughts on the 2A3 vs 45 tubes again? I know I read something on CS but I can't find it right now. This is especially interesting now that I know that you went for the 45 tubes on your custom Monolith interstage amp.

Now if we could just get those guys north of El Lay to starting making those Dac's in black again.

I thought they were still waiting on production boards. Probably won't see anything until the board house delivers nice-looking stuff.

 

I am on the list to purchase one of the Black Widows - any thoughts about a similar sized dac that would be a nice match for the BW? Thinking we are about a month away from receiving the amp so some time to think about what I am going to match it with.

 

I read Craig designed the case to stack nicely with a Gungnir Multibit.

 

As Riotvan pointed out, a driving factor for the new 16" wide case was to match up with a Gungnir Multibit or Yggdrasil. See post #425 for a nice picture of a potential stack.

 

Gungnir Multibit I know about but what the heck is a PWD?

I have a Resonessence Labs Concero HP - thinking the Black Widow will replace this amp - I have been eyeing their new Veritas dac that is being released about the same time as the Black Widow. Do you think the BW would do a 3K dac like this justice? Plus using hd 650's and Fostex x00 so wondering if spending this much on a dac makes sense with the BW. And like you say the amp sounds like it was built to go with a Gungnir Multibit.

 

Not sure about the new Veritas DAC, but based on impressions of previous Resonessence products, you should be asking the opposite question: do you think this DAC would do the BW justice? You seem to underestimate BW solely based on its price tag, I personally preferred it to Cavalli LAu, another SS amp that costs several times more.

Besides, I highly doubt this Veritas DAC could hold a candle to Gungnir Multibit, let alone Yggdrasil, in sonic performance. We'll have to see.

 

I have heard the Invicta and was probably best dac I have heard (dac in my main speaker system is a lampizator so have had a few good ones through my system). So was hoping the veritas will have more in common with the invicta than the conceros. But Gungnir Multibit and Yggdrasil sound like they are very impressive as well - need to check them out some more. Appreciate the feedback on small footprint dacs and matching with the black widow.

 

Is anyone planning to use a desktop shelf for the BW? I've been looking at Ikea for ideas but haven't found anything that'd fit on my small desk.

 

You could always do something like this with any size shelf and legs you wanted with Ikea parts. Similar parts would likely be available at a big box hardware store.

I do like the monoprice design more
