Really like AMD again. AMD has come out with some really solid releases in the last few years, and Intel really only seems to come out with... "not-quite-last-year's-stuff".
I remember ~2005,6 AMD was crushing intel, they didn't like it and came back with a vengeance. They seemed to jump 4 generations overnight. AMD just recently's recovering! Def need competition.
The branch prediction fiasco is really bad and worse than they are letting on... datacenters seeing 30% cpu usage increases on the same workload, able to pick data out across vm's. The fixes thus far seem to simply turn off the last 6 years of performance increases. Jeeeeeeze.
The new AMD APUs are actually extremely promising if the reviews and benchmark scores are accurate. Sub $250 for a processor capable of running most modern titles at 1080p with 30-60fps, which makes for a good stop-gap until the mining hype dies down.
@Melvillian Luckily it hasn't been TOO terribly long since I last upgraded my video card so I will just keep my OC'ed GeForce 970 that is in my current setup until GPU's are reasonable again.
I was thinking about rebuilding my PC this year. Afraid to say, it's not going to happen until Meltdown and Specter get fixed in the hardware layer. Maybe video cards will be reasonable by then.
