Got to a song with some detail and it became clear the 58X is lacking in detail.

Unmodded HD650? I love it for long sit-downs, but I can see how something less tilted in the FR might come across as "better"-sounding. Resolves like crazy even with the bloomy sound though. Welcome to the fanclub :P

Haven’t modded my hd650. Was alway scared it would mess them up. They were my first real headphone.

The stock HD650 has a pleasant mid-bas bump and smooth highs. There is music that benefits from a flatter FR curve. What remains is how your audio systems feeds the signal to the HD650 and whether you like what you hear.

Maybe I’ll finally take the plunge and try modding it.
