I got them to remedy the migraines I get during travel because I can't stand the weird pressure effect of ANC headphones (they cause headaches and nausea). IEMs are good but not enough I guess.

Good muffs not to be under-estimated. Have you looked at molded (custom) ear plugs as well?

I've read about people using IEMs with ear-muffs with excellent results...potentially way cheaper than ANC (depending on the IEM of course).

@penguins Nope. I also tried using some certified ear plugs and they were better than IEMs (great isolating IEMs but not the deep insertion ones) but they too were not good enough for my mediocre car and our awful roads so I dismissed searching for better plugs and went searching for some serious ear muffs.

@Jinxy245 ALL ANC headphones suck big balls. I too thought about this, the Fearless S8 pro are too big to fit the muffs over them. The Fiio FD5 are just barely small enough but didn't try playing music on a noisy road, will it try next Thursday.

I use my CIEM on flights. During the cabin pressurization it helps prevent my eardrums from popping. I have a bunch of ANC stuff that I went ahead and sold off since I preferred CIEM when traveling.

@Jinxy245 Great results of using the Fiio fd5 with the ear muffs. Isolation is too good to be safe for driving imo. Details pop up easily with this amount of isolation. The comfort is just bearable due to the clamping force of the muffs. Great method overall.
