Just got my Freya+ and found this to be a welcome suprise. Rest of silver finish seems to be a good match for previous silver schiit products. Maybe buttons/knobs have been this way for a while and I am late, but figured I would mention just in case.
Yes, and it seems many people hate us for the change (more complaints about how it "doesn't match" and "looks like plastic.") Thanks for taking the positive side.
@schiit I see how it could be polarizing (and I suppose my Yggdrasil buttons don't match now), but I think overall is an improvement. Looks more sleek/uniform. My only concern will be if the finish holds up to use, but I am sure you thought through that and it is a durable finish. 99% of the time I use remote anyway, so very welcome to have the volume indicator notch.
@schiit I can understand the factors that would necessitate a change, but I tend to agree with the dissenting opinions. Especially if I'm going to pay extra for silver, I want the sexy OG knobs, indicator be damned :-)
I guess the reactions here are a good subset of how polarizing this has been. Valid to be concerned that it looks a bit cheap/plasticky, in person there is a slight vibe of that, but the tradeoff of the visible notch and how uniform it looks with the chassis finish is worth it. My worry with these was the finish almost seemed like a matte paint, but hearing it is anodized has me feeling good about it!
The pics do make it look as if it could be plastic. However the visibility of the indicator on the knob(s) would win out for me, but I'm a very 'substance over style' sort.
Probably looks worse in pics than in reality. I’m willing to give Schiit the benefit of the doubt, since like 3/4 of the gear I own is Schiit, I believe they make smart choices (most of the time, Jot 1 not withstanding haha).
