I yearn for a good TOTL (Yggdrasil level) recent (say 4493 or >) AKM implementation. The Holo Spring 3 KTE was almost it, but leaned a little too much toward ESS sound/emphasis, though I might end up getting one anyways

I can appreciate your choices, though I found other synergies in my system. I still own an Emotiva ESS DAC (for my 2.1) and I’m listening to an HE560. It’s all about following your ears!

If I made more money I'd have a Sus, so I'm at least a spiritual member of your minority cluster. Not sure how I'd amp it but I'd probably keep Yggdrasil

@crenca perhaps not your cup of tea, but I’ve found Pi2AES with HQPlayer embedded provides me with great sound shaping ability. I prefer my Holo Spring 3 over Bifrost, Modi I, or Emotiva now.

crenca: Holo S3 could be my next dac but too pricey for my blood. Anyway it ignited my 2022 dac shopping like Yggdrasil did to 2018 dac shopping lol.

roshambo123: I am rather finding Sus was pretty generous to head amps once power requirements met. In good ways, re-discovering what opamps are capable of.

you’re correct, x dac was adm. Was the Modi 1 ESS?

Except for very recent ess variants, all previous modi (1-3) were akm I think.
