I’ve heard the problem is summing stages in the SE output and this is a design choice that could be done differently.

How can one change the OG? but I believe transformers are also summers

@rhythmdevils - you mentioned in the LiM thread, I think, that the transformers adversely effect resolution on the OG/A2. Is it a significant difference vs. balanced? i.e. how gimped is gimped? (Asking because considering a DAC upgrade)

Not enough space inside, not enough heat dissipation, and crazy shunt power supply doesn't leave enough juice. A redesign would be required. FYI, there are no xfrmers inside the DACs. The summer circuit is solid-state and actually comes straight AFTER the balanced outputs.

@Tchoupitoulas i don’t find it as bad as everyone else does. I’ve got a 2 in SE switcher and have XLR -> transformers plugged into one and SE plugged into the other and they’re pretty close. It’s very hard to compare because of the volume difference but I would say it just has less of everything. A bit less resolution dynamics etc

I have both A1 and A2 cards and if Folkvangr feels gimped due to SE only I might buy a LIM card and have all three.

Also, @rhythmdevils, which XLR>SE transformer are you using? I tried the Jensen and hated them.

Yeah, the PO-2XR pricetag makes LIM the cleaner choice. I just worry LIM is a bit dark.
