If they scale better than the 650/600 I think they would be very worth it, but I doubt they do.

What's disappointing? They have more sub bass and less treble than the HD600 which is all to be expected, that's all that graph shows us. The HD650 has always had less treble than the 600. I'm glad the new 660S2 doesn't have that upper mid bump of the HD600. Looks good actually IMO. No upper bass hump.

Subbass is better but that giant dip at 4.5k is apparently real and not fixable via EQ, upper mids appear dipped even more than the 660 was as a result. I suspect that will result in somewhat blunted attack. Air region is really dipped. It will probably sound pretty good with very fresh pads, but as soon as they get even a little wear on them its going to turn into a very dark headphone.

I also prefer the OG 660s upper mids to the 600s, but I think cutting them even more was a mistake. 660s was nearly perfect there. OG also had a issue with the air frequencies being quite muted and I dont think this will resolve that, they increased the air slightly, but the extra bass will probably mask it.

Did he mention whether those HD600s were rocking new pads or no? I can't stand them for very long periods with fresh pads, but the pair I'm using have been rocking the same ones since 2015 I believe, so would be significantly less bright (they're basically on-ears at this point, hah!)

And as always while FR does tell a lot about whether or not a pair of transducers might work for someone, I'm more curious about how reactive those fancy new diaphragms might be since that liveliness could well overcome that upper midrange dip (which looks fine per my preferences, but those are def niche).

Both measurements were with brand new earpads, though its not yet known how the 660v2 will react with worn pads. I agree the HD600 gets actually better with worn earpads, its the reason I would lean towards recommending the 600 vs the 650, it actually sounds nice with worn pads so you dont have to replace them often. 650 (and 660s even more so) gets dark with worn pads.
