WE396A is a great tube. If you case you're interested in checking out other tubes; there are some nice Russian 6n3ps (5670/396A equivalent). They are cheap and I was fond of the ones from the Reflektor factory. Different flavor.

nervousa: the square getters (usually 2C51s) sound better than the round getters, imho.

I'm not a fan, they have a kind of "icey" tone to me no matter how much I try to like them. Kind of cold and hard.

Check out a Bendix 2C51 if you can snag one. Marv recommended it over the 396a somewhere, and a few of us really enjoy it in our SB’s. A little cleaner/less colored/more detailed than 396a, but prob will depend on chain and other toobs for synergy. Can be hard to find. JAN versions are supposed to be a bit better, but I’m running a non-JAN in SB and am happy.

I'm scared to publicly comment on my favorite tubes because it makes the prices go way up and they become "holy grail" tubes all of a sudden... pm me if you want. ;)

@yotacowboy @internethandle thanks for the suggestions. I currently have a Sylvania JAN 2C51 here given to me by the guy I got the ER300B from. I will try this one later tonight. Will also look for the Bendix to try.
