Default setting: A nice V, but not overdone at all. Lots of great fun with everything that isn’t jazz or classical. With vocal jazz it’s ok, but I prefer “House” by a small margin. With classical, the mids are missing too much, I strongly prefer “House”.
Nice extra bass, especially sub, but never boomy.
House: Closer to the usual Focal house sound, less bass and mid treble. Sounds very good, but loses a bit of the excitement and satisfying bass of the default setting. A bit less slam. As noted above, I’m glad it’s there for classical, and as I’m treble sensitive, it can be the saving grace for recordings with too hot treble to me.
Dynamic: Focal says this is close to Harman. I don’t like it at all. Mid bass often is too much for my taste, slightly boomy. But especially, the HP just sounds boring in this mode. It loses nearly all of its wonderful slam, but gains nothing. A small bit of clarity, maybe, at the expense of losing that Focal “sitting in a concert hall” sound.
House reminds me of the Clear MG which wasn't to my taste (I like the Clear OG much better). I did use that as a starting point and boosted the mid treble to wake it up. My head is weird and can't handle any of the thin headbands which are used in most ANC models. The ZMF Copilot is working but it doesn't stay on well, too flat. Looks like I need to buy the ZMF Crescent snap.
@loadexfa Yes, House reminds me of my Clear Mg, too, just a little bit brighter, which made me think it might be leaning towards Clear OG or Utopia 2022, but I haven’t heard the Clear OG, and the Utopia only shortly under meet conditions. So yes, it might well be that it’s closer to the Clear Mg than to other Focals.
