So basically I'm thinking ancient Audeze, think LCD2r2. Maybe Verum 1 or if I was rich I'd just get that HFM HE-5 OG off eBay. For low distortion LCD2r2 seems like a good idea.
Your previously mentioned LCD2 would be a good realistic choice. I don’t know if Audeze has more consistent QC on the FR over the past five years, but pre-pandemic, the FR could vary a lot to my ears. If you can hear them in person before buying, it’s never a bad idea.
Yeah... I've heard like two LCD2r2 before and it's not really my type of sound. I've heard a few LCD3s back in the day and unfortunately the variance was real. So buying one blind is kind of stupid, that's for sure...
I saw his HE6 4 screw and I wish I could buy it since they're so rare now. But even the HE5 that's for sale for half the price is too expensive. Going purely by measurements I don't think the HE6SE would be anywhere close... And I can't let those bumps slide.
I do think for now I just build it and then hope a nice dealer lets me measure a couple headphones when it's not busy. I mostly want to get a feel for how well it seals when it's ready.
The RD-X would probably be my top recommendation here too, but didn’t know if any were available or reasonable. I’ve heard two and both are the best examples of what you can extract from an LCD.
