A modded HP-1 I heard was pretty good as well.

@EagleWings I'm still very much team dynamic, but man if modern planars I'd heard over the years were generally more similar to this, I'd like both transducer types. I do appreciate Audezes and understand HFM (even if I dislike the latter for regular use), but they're very different from this IMO. Wonder what happened.

@dBel84 is a indeed a wizard. I have been using my Yamaha HP-1 for past 12 years now, definitely end game for me.

@gurubhai I'm giving myself time to grow properly accustomed to them. Just have them running out of the Piety for now but will give the MCTH a shot sooner or later. With how much fun these are I am beginning to question the value proposition of a lot of modern orthos, haha.

There are some aspects that these modern headphones seem to be better at and I use an umbrella term, modern resolution to refer to aspects such as, bass definition, separation, imaging precision, black-ground etc. Outside those aspects, I do think Yamaha and Sennheiser solved headphones back in the 20th century.

@EagleWings That's why we mod the vintage orthos, to improve tthese aspects you call modern resolution. I won't be satisfied with a headphone if it couldn't do those things.
