Where else in the world does the seller not get paid until days after the buyer receives the item? You could argue that businesses can be trusted more than individuals, but that's where 25 years of being with PayPal without any problems comes in. Paypal needs to pay up for long established users with no trace of fraudulent activity.
PayPal is honestly terrible. I know this doesn't apply to a lot of other countries, but the volume of fees stacked for international transactions is mad. I think it was about 9% in fees when I sent money to someone else earlier this month. Granted, I wasn't sending a lot of money, but damn.
I vaguely remember this happened to me last year - as the seller I ended up going to the Paypal Helpdesk and using their automated AI help system. Whatever ended up happening resulted in something like "requesting a seller limit increase" which immediately worked - it was a bit unnerving and confusing TBH but I did not have to call in at least.
@Mr.Sneis thank you for the recommendation that worked and all the funds are clear. And future transactions will be too. Never thought a chat bot could do anything so helpful.
@bixby this was a hold on the funds before they were available to use even in my PayPal balance. Which has happened many times but I guess PayPal has wisedened about long term users I don’t know.
What @crenca said - someway, somehow, I bet this is due to IRS or other gov intervention of sorts... probably under the guise of combating illicit activity or money laundering.
I'm also sure that PP, like ANY other platform, has had some kind of illicit financial activity conducted there before... but there are so many other smarter and better ways to solve this IMO...
^ hence why I think this is yet another way for IRS / gov to try to control us.
OTOH we also cannot underestimate some of the stupid things that companies will do to "make money" ... even if they do not actually make money from it.
@penguins well PayPal makes money off this because they don’t pay sellers until the item is confirmed to have arrived. So if there is a problem they just don’t give the seller the money. Rather than paying the seller upfront in a possible scam where the seller makes out with it and PayPal has to pay themselves to make it right with the buyer.
