For maximum steampunk, you have to go with Decware Taboo
Get old moth gear.
@Melvillian Agh, that's perfect! Gah, twice as costly as my upper ceiling though. Extended ramen binge and maybe sell off a couple nice pens it is, or just wait a few years.
Also, @zerodeefex, dear God in Heaven those are lovely. Might as well save up for EC though, given how hard it seems to track those down. The Cicada speakers look damn awesome though.
Those speakers are really beautiful. I'm getting sample paints so I can build matching woofers.
GDI guys, I'm already uncomfortable with how much I'm (planning on) spending on headphones. *sigh* At least I can take some solace in the fact that I honestly have no room for a proper hi-fi.
Back to drooling over tube amps way out of my pay grade! Thanks, I think, for bringing these near-unobtanium components to my attention XD
Not that you'll be able to buy it but Frank Cooter has the most steampunk custom amps I've ever seen.
I... am simultaneously elated to learn of a new boutique brand, happy these beautiful amps exist, and massively pissed at how difficult getting one of them is.
File under Unobtanium, and while you're a cool person, @Cspirou, damn you six ways to Sunday school :))
Oh it's not a brand and beyond unobtanium. He builds his amps and displays them at shows for a bit and then disassembles them. As far as I know he's only sold one to Jude after he twisted his arm enough. It's like Buddhist sand art.
Moth stuff is very Art Deco. The cicada looks beautiful in the pictures, I'm sure they're stunning in real life.
Feliks Audio makes beautiful amps!
@Cspirou, that's even worse! A literal Grail to pursue at great personal loss (and expense— mostly lots of expense, lol). Still, incomparable eye candy. Thanks! :)
@Melvillian That they are. Sigh, we need more aesthetic like that nowadays, but people are either into hipster chic or ultramodern.
@barelyincollege Can't believe I only just now heard of them myself (name did ring a bell, but not loudly enough to trigger recall). Best part is that they're not unobtanium!
I think any tube amp can be steampunked up by just adding tube dampeners.
@ButtUglyJeff I'm a total newb when it comes to tubes, so I had no idea things like tube dampers even existed!
While I do agree they look cool, it doesn't hurt to have a good base to build upon! Way out of my budget for now, but I think I'll be saving up for a Decware Taboo, which @Melvillian recommended a bit earlier (provided its sound matches the asking price). It looks fucking awesome, is all :))
... Or a Mogwai. Damn that thing is sexy.
