Back in Britain for a holiday visit after two years, it’s good to have some mother’s milk again:

The ale here doesn’t travel well, so I don’t tend to drink it very often back in the US. It’s best fresh. But with Omicron and being cautious while staying with elderly relatives, I’m keeping out of the pub. Still, of the bottled ales, these two are pretty good. The Bishop’s Finger is awesome.

I’m assuming the Old Speckled Hen in the bottle doesn’t have the Nitro insert? Luckily we have an English Pub in Tampa where I can get my Hen fix on draft. I also have a little place by my house that stocks it in cans with the Nitro. Not as good as draft at the Pub but beggars can’t be choosers. Mmmm Nitro.

That's awesome you can get Hen on draft in Tampa. I've not seen it anywhere in the NYC metro area. I've not seen it in cans, either, but I'll go search Total Wine and other stores locally when I get back. Alas, no nitro in the bottle.

This brings back sweet memories speckled hen was my favourite beer when travelling while I lived in Wales. It was one available in many places and a really good choice.
I loved the afternoons spent in a nice pub in Tenby. They always had two varying guest beers on draft. All of them Real Ale. Nice to wile away the time having a chat with a regular or watching a premiership match.

Fahr Oktober...brewed in Turner Valley, AB, Canada. Essentially tasteless but in a good way. With a great balance and flow rate, asking for more...and makes one happy, just like the originals in Munich.

    But 5.9% is unrealistically high.

for the Delirium Noel, the Elephant design on the front changes year by year.
A local store had old stock (not worried about bottle fermented Belgians) from Dec 2020 and Dec 2021 simultaneously, which is how I finally noticed.

Not sure if D Noel "designs from past years" have been cataloged on the internet, but still a nice touch.

Granville Island Winter Ale...a brewery from Vancouver, BC. This is a liquid cake with overwhelming vanilla aromas in both smell and taste. A beer for people who don't like beer.

Well done Doppelbock from Brauerei Fahr in Turner Valley, AB. Thick, robust head, sweet, malty note...as tasty as it should be. 7.5% alc. is also ok. Warms hearts in winter.

Another beer by Brauerei Fahr in Turner Valley, AB.

The "Rauch" (Rauchbier or "smoked beer") is a take on the suds by Bamberg breweries Schlenkerla and Spezial. Rauchbier is a Franconian/northern Bavarian specialty that originated when some monks did not want to throw out barley after it had been naturally smoked in the burning wooden shed storing it.

Today, the barley is smoked over beechwood giving it that smokey note. People say you need to drink 3 18 oz. glasses so that the first one tastes good. Others say, it tastes like bacon, but I cannot share this opinion.

Yes, Rauch(bier) is an acquired taste, but it comes relatively close to Guinness...both have this firm head. And I wonder whether, in their days, the Guinness founders had stopped by in Bamberg.

Brauerei Fahr's sud is actually quite authentic, at least in the finish. The smokey aroma is just right, not too weak and not overdone either. Where it lacks compared to the original is in the body...you can see right through the glass, which is not possible with the (darker) originals.

    Nevertheless, well drinkable. Prost!

    Basic lager that never fails.

Since it is becoming shirtless weather in FL I been feel like drinking lagers/pils and grapefruit/wiess mixes as of late. Anything high alcohol I normally avoid on the summer months.

I didn't really read this when I bought it, I just liked the can design. Only realized what I bought later when I was at home. But since I own the album I figured I would listen while I drank.

I just found out Kwak made a blonde beer

    7E38F79B-DBFA-42A7-AC5E-5FEF1998E77B.jpeg

I don’t know how to describe it other than ‘Belgian blond’. Light in color but not in taste. Slightly bitter

Score! Delirium Black on draft. I can really taste the oak barrels it’s been aged in. Good times.
