Well, now we know what the next off-topic subject for the thread will be...

Also, thanks for the update, I can't wait to hear the amp! People that show up to local meets have been asking about it, and I'm glad it's going to be ready for canmania.

Why do you care? Just buy the Taurus. You already sent Craig an e-mail that you wouldn't buy EC on principle because of the dickish way I schooled @Thenewerguy009 on why putting in tubes not recommended by the manufacturer was not a good idea. This after I nicely told him once and he had to reply to me "but HFers roll random tubes all the time with Woo, Glenn, Feliks, etc."

You should stick to your principles and not buy EC gear.

And BTW, I was dead serious in my reply to @Thenewerguy009 on reading up on tube amps, reading tube datasheets, and building your own tube amp if you want to roll tubes that the amps weren't designed for in the first place. Knowledge is power. Knowledge triumphs idiocy. Once you start messing with the intent and design of the manufacturer, you may was well build your own. This is not Lego.

its cool... you are right I will stick to my guns then. Craig was super nice and explained he understood.

To be honest dude.. you are wayyyyyyy more knowledgeable than me; way more serious about your gear; way more respect worthy when it comes to your point of view sonically and your industry presence and maybe it gives you a license to do the following:

    1. Respond rudely to people
    2. Be the only manufacturer rep that is allowed to review other competing manufacturers gear negatively (and positively) without backlash
    3. Slander everyone who you think is not on your level yet shill and play similar games as those you slander
The black widow was on my wish list for a while way before innferfidelity. Because I am tired of mfg artificially boosting highs to sound more 'high-fi'. Eddie current seems like the rare gem of the audio world. I am pretty outspoken and I should keep my hands out of things. But I should support real no BS gear its just hard if my opinion of the rep is sorely mixed by how he carries himself. That was why I emailed to cancel my order but decided to keep it since he responded so nicely. I also forget what a Pirate is, maybe that is the culture of the ship and you are the captain... I dunno.

I will still read up no this amp regardless just because I love music and the gear that makes it sound right. Even if I am banned.

Wait, so you want a no BS rep who is always nice talking and kissing asses? How dafuq does that even work? Sorry in advance if I completely misunderstood what you meant.

You are not banned and you won't be. If you decide not to buy it, you are welcome to be on the loaner.

Want to know why that is? Because people here requested that I do so and also because in private conversations when people ask me about gear, I will recommend that they buy or at least consider other manufacturers' gear. Craig hates when I do this. But the fact is that different people have different preferences. I find it harmful to EC if people buy an amp they are not happy with. I've flat out told people that the Stratus, or Rag, or Cavalli, etc. would be the better amp for them. I've also been a huge champion of value priced gear, of which EC makes none. I also won't answer comparison questions with EC gear, like the one you just posed on Rag vs. Taurus vs. BW.

Don't mistake my rudeness for lack of caring. I don't work in conventional ways. People who know me know that I care deeply about audio and about people who truly want good sound. Sometimes I need to turn up the volume. My response on tube rolling probably saved a few people from blowing up their tube amps with wrong tubes, adapters, etc. and saved Woo, Glenn, Feliks from a few headaches. Troubleshooting amps is a pain in the ass, especially when people are too embarrassed to say how they screwed up something.

If you want me to be nicer, maybe you can just say so, instead of passive-aggressively pouting your self-righteousness. This is not the first time that you've proclaimed your mighty moral judgements. Did it ever occur to you that I (and probably one hundred other people here) find that your actions are rude?

You also advised people to never buy new gear at retail, unless I mistook your intention. I was frankly flabbergasted at such a ballsy comment and wondered whether you were steering people away from purchasing new from EC as well. This was proof to me you were in it, not for the money, but for your concern to honestly steer people toward maximizing value in audio and to be more responsible with their purchases. If that involves being "rude," so be it!

First time - I wasn't responding to you but to another individual whom I disagreed with. Then you chimed in and even though there was some misinterpretation we hashed it out.

Second time - I simply felt how I felt and emailed to cancel my order off principal. Partially as well because the guy is a super nice gentleman who you were rude to. I didn't try to bring it up on your forum. You did...Obviously the tons of dislikes on my post reflect people thinking I am being rude. It's okay. I respect your response though. You have good points.

Also I am not telling people to not buy new products. In fact I bought my Pavane, hd800s, and trafomatic amp brand new because I knew I wanted them to stay. I have in the past on occasions advised people to buy gear they are apprehensive about purchasing, to buy used to minimize loss. However the BW can easily be sold without losing a dime.

Big misunderstanding. I quoted Marvey and directed my response toward him. I did not reference you at all.

He suggested people avoid buying audio products at full retail in another thread, which is admirably honest given that he works for EC. I still purchased an amp from EC new and dont regret it.

As a sidenote, you must be happy with the Pavane. Seems like a sick DAC and is certainly something I would like to hear.

Sorry about that. Totally misread it. You were making a comment to the credibility of Marv. Thats a good point too. There is lots to respect about the guy. I am not back peddling either. But my gripes have been already expressed.

Id like to hear my Pavane too!!

    Hi all,

I'm wondering what the output impedance is on the BW? (Thinking of potentially using it for a pair of IEMs if there is a good enough damping factor)

    Thanks,
    Mischa

Let me check it out. And the noise too. Last time we tried to measure, it was difficult. The amp will current limit for more difficult loads.

Those Black Widows look complete except for the tubes. I guess they'll go in that big empty space beside the transformer. :p

Now that these are real physical things- what dac's are people going to be pairing them with?

Since it was half designed with the Gungnir Multibit in mind, I could not resist. Many pages of posts ago, after the balanced input transformer debate, it was determined that Gungnir Multibit probably sounded better through the balanced outs than single ended, and a transformer box was recommend (specifically a Jensen Iso-Max XLR to RCA). Is anyone using this box and can confirm this is the way to go?

Congrats to the owners of the first 5, you lucky bastards. Please post plenty of action shots to fire the lust and desire from the others later on the list (while we jealously talk smack about you in less public forums).

can't help with Gungnir Multibit, but
i'm using that Jensen IsoMAX box between Yggdrasil and BW1 --> HE1K. IsoMax reduced some noise and provided a step up in clarity, as mentioned awhile back.
don't recall anyone stating that a IsoMAX transformers would be a detriment in theory or practice.

later this month with Mutec 3+USB back in line, will do some more XLR vs. SE Yggdrasil to BW1 listening.
then repeat with Pavane DAC replacing the Yggdrasil.
