Dynamic vs Estat Round 15

Unfortunately, I have no measurements or any documentation to support my claims. I'm talking from experience and I've tried to get some meaningful explanation from the designer who created my favourite drivers, but I couldn't wrap my head around the technicalities and I'm sure he wouldn't be willing to post any info anywhere. It would be interesting to read that speaker builder's blog post indeed.

Think of the "noise" I'm referring to as a signal noise generated by a shoddy power supply, for example, but generated by the magnetic system instead. It's an extreme comparison, I know, but the impact on the treble is somewhat similiar to my years. You know, when you have a great power supply, the treble sounds so gentle and clean, and you have the feeling there's less treble present. Really hard to explain I've learned one thing over the years - designing a proper speaker is a very complex and difficult task.

 

But Marvey, how are we going to enjoy music in the office... while playing Civ 5??? I meant "working"...

 

I definitely understand the phenomena as you describe it and I daresay I've had similar experiences. Would be interseting to investigate. I've always thought about making my own field coils.

 

I agree, if we can dig out some info that can shed light on this phenomenon, I'd love to read it. I haven't been able to find much on the net though, and the guys who design top drivers aren't very chatty about their own designs.

I've got zero hands-on experience with field coils, even though I am really interested in such drivers. Some time ago I (finally) realized I've burnt through too much cash and I hit the brakes. I'm happy with what I've already got.
