    I don't remember. A lot of Russian stuff is weird. They are horrible at marketing and branding. Their designs are all box like utilitarian using the least amount of space possible, as if they were a people who've had to endure harsh rulers and invaders over centuries. The amp pretty good sounding and I like that it's transformer coupled. Pictures of it tomorrow.

    I still don't get the tropics thing. I only saw it being referenced once in the awards thread :(.

    But yes... someone needs to get an Elise and compare it to the more known amps around here.

    Haven't seen any modern rus designs, but the influence is not hard to grasp. It is not like they had marketing departments in USSR, more like the Department of emotional engineering.

    Like when @OJneg asked @Shaffer if @zerodeefex dick-slapped his wife? Signal-detracting to say the least. It's also a case of friendly dick mode fire methinks, given Shaffer's 94 signal-boosting posts in the OTL/Tube rolling thread.

    For everyone's benefit: let's show an application of how to differentiate between content posted by someone, and that actual someone. I find most of OJ's posts signal amplifying, and I have the likes to prove it. That statement above though...pure noise. On balance, if someone is categorically noise-amplifying, I have no problem telling them to go away. But in this case, his statement isn't some culmination of a bevy of noise, so this response of mine is measured and proportionate. It's not designed to say "go away."

    And, lol, to make it clear, I have no dog in this race, don't own any Oppo and up until yesterday, hadn't heard about their Bluray players.

    From my own experience Berning has designed some aurally excellent amplifiers, they dont mesure particularly well but their really excellent reproduction of music is not borne out by this. The Berning Siegfried amplifier must rank as one of the 10 most important amplifiers of the past 50 years if not all time.

    I once owned the original ZOTL and it sounded great with my grados and my senn 580 way back around yr 2000. I don't remember the sound enough to comment on how it stacks up with modern stuff today. All I remember was that it sounded more satisfying to me than any of the other amps I have owned at that time. I owned the headroom Little more power and a bunch of integrated amps at the time.

    I cant comment on the headphone amplifier i'm afraid as much of my headphone listening is with electrostatic headphones STAX/Jecklin Float. More familiar with the power amplifiers like the 230/270 which are rather good and very under-rated IMO. Personally I wouldn't say Berning has any more of a cult status than say Nelson Pass, Gordon Rankin, Dennis Had or John Curl. They are all great designers, just depends what you are looking for. Sounds like you are looking for something which will drive your dynamics via a headphone socket and your STAX via the speaker outlets?

    Given the susceptibility of the Sennheiser HD800 to impedance it would be interesting to hear how well they perform with the MicroZotol?

    i want something to be a good pre amplifier and something to drive planar headphone , dynamic one, and pre to the stax also...The zotl seems to be that, durability of tube, neutrality of sound, originality of the topology, capacity to drive efficient speakers, quality pre amplification function, ... i read all about Berning .... The only contender i know of about this microzotl is the Feliks audio tube amp in the same price level (elise)...in the one 1000 dollars bracket there is not a crowd to compete with all that advantages ....
