Alright, I'd love to hear what you and CeeT say. Maybe I'll invest in a BW in the very far future, but I'd rather go with a nice tube amp now, and there's no way in hell I'm building a Black Widow first DIY project. If I can ever make it to California, I'll definitely look out for EC amps to get a listen.

 

It'll be a great DIY project. Maybe something where you distribute the case as well? Maybe some Coopperhead cases?

 

As a Crackhead... where does the Crack fit in OP's list?

 

With BW and Carbon both out of production, I'm stuck waiting for a good amp to upgrade to that won't break the bank.

Me myself get a HD650 AGAIN after 3 years ago i've sold that magnificent headphones...and now it's time to be in love again...certainly HD650 was the gate for me to enter this hobby...digging for more poisonous item..

Have been changing to HE6, HD800, Alpha Dog, LCD X and LCD XC, sold them all and get the HD650 back...

No Calyx M dap on that list?

 

Um, Calyx M while appealing to a lot of people, is way too thick and warm. Plus 5 hours battery. And the brick form factor. It's really not that that wonderful.

TH-X00 is a good compliment to the HD650. If you want an exciting bass and treble voyage, X00. If you need a pleasant and accurate foray, 650.

 

Is the 'S' a typo for 'E' in your ratings?

I'm curious why the Ether-C got an S, especially given the open Ether got a VG? I listened to them both at the San Diego meet with Gungnir Multibit->Mjolnir2 and thought they sounded quite similar, although I only listened to the open one for a few minutes as it wasn't something I'd consider buying.

But I actually liked the Ether-C better than my TH900 - more neutral but still good bass impact, better mids, good soundstage for closed.

I read through the Ether-C thread here and it seemed like many of the negative impressions were preproduction units, a faulty unit, or through a Woo amp with crappy tubes. Maybe the production version through a good system is not so bad?

The Ether C that I heard was fairly close sounding to the open Ethers at the NY meet. Luck of the draw?
