NSFW: SuperBAF Best of 2015 Golden Schlong Awards

Early on a few of us on IRC brought up how we kinda missed the dislike button. I don't really care for the like/dislike culture (it creates groupthink among other problems) but that seems to be the way forums/social media will be for the foreseeable future. People are naturally attracted to getting gold stars, but I think it leads to a worse SNR.

Anyways, during those IRC convos I came up with 2 models I think would at least be funny to temporarily implement:

1. As a means of increasing SNR, members' like : post ratio is tracked by the forum. Early on there were a few members who were making lots of junk threads. There could be a set L : P ratio in order for a member to do things like create x threads/posts in a set time. This would probably significantly lower ad revenue and page hits but I think SNR would go way up. Garbage posters would have to actually start contributing, and good posters would be able to afford to make occasional joke/off topic posts.
2. The one I'd really like to see because I think it'd be hilarious is to track the same L : P ratio as above with a correlating text color strength. For instance, people with a great L : P would have text that really stands out against the background (bold), the average L : P would be like normal text, and the worst posters would have their text fade closer and closer to the background color/invisible.

Activate the dislike button at the first month of new membership. Or first 100 posts. Within the limit if one reached 300 dislikes, the posting privilege will be restricted to one per hour. Until the mod team approves considerable contribution.

 

The ignore and report functions work fine--if people use them. A dislike button would be needlessly disharmonious.

 

Ravi, can you fix my dislikes? Currently I'm sitting at zero and that seems impossible. I should be at like -150 or something.

 

Can we make it so we can dislike our own posts... it could do wonders for my ego reduction therapy...

Interesting. Were there other Ether-Cs floating around or just the one at Dan's table. IIRC, you listened to the C on cradon's setup and I would have thought Dan would not have let it leave his table. Anyway, the one I heard at Dan's table was "S" rating IMO and my reaction was similar to Hands'. Maybe the synergy with that Woo amp was terrible but it was Dan-approved. Only after Dan changed the tubes of the Woo and stuffed it with the max amount of Ether doggie treats or whatever he is calling them did they even sound listenable to me. Putting aside my subjective reaction, which could be a matter of taste/preference, the one I heard on that setup did not sound at all like the open Ether.

Yeah the Ether C that I heard was grabbed by Cradon, so I have no idea which pair he picked up. It was near the end of the meet, which is probably why Dan let him take it.
