And on the topic of headphones, I have been modding my HD700 per Takato:

    http://superbestaudiofriends.org/in...er-hd700-is-now-listenable-the-hd750-mod.142/

Did the filter-paper mod a week or so ago and was so impressed with the improvement that I decided to proceed with the ear-pad mod. Last night and this afternoon, cut and sewed up a spare pair of ear-pads and just put them on. I really like what I am hearing. :)

Still waiting on those globe rectifiers this other tube guy is on vacation hopefully will get them next week .Could of had one this weekend but it was a dud .

any resident tube gurus have any experience with the 6C41C? looks like an interesting tube. a 'baby' single triode version of the 6C33C found in the Zana Deux.

When it comes to modding headphones, I do not have adequate knowledge or experience to evaluate and debate the relative merits of different products and techniques. In this regard, I accept my limitations and am perfectly content to be a follower and a copycat. :)

To my amazement, these relatively simple mods have transformed the HD700 into a significantly better headphone. It is not at all subtle. It is a major upgrade. My system has never sounded better. Of course, if and when someone else comes out with another set of mods, I will more than happy to try them as long as they are relatively inexpensive, reversible and not too difficult to implement. But for now all I want to do is relax and listen to my music. :)

For any queries ask Gurubhai, it's his creation that i managed to rob.
This amp loves the u52 and u54. Both expensive and rare, i had the priviledge to hear them both and wish to own someday.

So you admit to it now, certainly was a robbery !
Been really missing this amp lately. The little 6dj8 OTL I have been using in the interim is a very good amp, excellent even but it doesn't quite have the same magic and finesse of this amp.
Wish I had more time to complete the next one sooner.:Violin:

This one is another of my 6AS7 OTLs with somewhat exotic part selection and a much higher 6AS7 current bias. It uses a choke filtered, tube rectified power supply, which is centered around GZ32 but ofcourse most other 5V rectifiers can be used as well. The black base U52 is certainly a favorite in this amp.
The input tube is a 6SN7 for which my favorites are the Tungsol bgrp and RCA Vt-231 and for output tube I prefer the GEC 6080.
No electrolytic caps in this one, polypropylene throughout which explains the huge chassis for an otherwise simple amplifier.

Nice looking thread here with some great tubes.
I don't have gear that qualifies so I'll just lurk and enjoy.

A very good question! Among American manufacturers, this just might be the case, but I really don't know. However, given that the C3g, C3m and similar tubes have loctal bases, one can add Siemens, Lorenz, Telefunken and perhaps others to the list.

The amp doesn't matter. Any tube that lights up pretty at night automatically qualifies. :)

1952 - according to an explanation I read recently.

I really enjoy deciphering the dots. Admittedly I also need to get out more.

Woo adapters are really nice made with teflon but for me 3-4 times the price of chinease brass adapters Do you like the 7N7 worth trying ,did you ever compare them to 6SN7 in your WA6 , those adapters are probably available on Ebay will check it out .
