Littledot just came out of surgery and is in good health first impressions of the 6AU6 is like the LD in general sounds light not a full thick sound for lack of better words ,but you get use to the sound tough .If you look at page 77 in LD tube rolling guide it was the 2nd tube on the list so we went a long way since then, finishing in my part with the 6SN7 ,C3G combo never tried anything with a power supply [IMG]

I can't easily imagine using a pair of 6AU6 in any of your other amps. lol. But you are still buying tubes for your Little Dot? Good for you! I haven't turned my LD on in a long time now...

And yes, I remember well rolling lots of 6AU6/EF94, and especially the GE 8425A, but once I listened to a Tung-Sol 6AH6/6485, I never looked back... And in the end, it was great fun, even if a bit crazy, with external sockets and heater power supplies.

Shaffer ive seen that you are using a 83v rectifier in your WA6 and that's with either 6cy7 or 6ew7 as drivers am i correct what do you think of that combo so far. Thanks .

[IMG] Thanks ,will get some 6CY7 and see how that goes .Do you yhink the 6CY7 and Sylvania 6FD7 are comparable got a pair of those and a pair of Amperex 6FD7 .I see the 83v has a bigger vdrop than the type 83 .i guess it helps a bit or so ive heard . I posted this link somewhere before but where? Anyways here it is again in case somebody is interested http://www.fourwater.com/files/fullrect.txt [IMG]

No adapters great . Mercury vapor scared me to but when i found out that the same crap is still in neon lights just gotta be careful i guess ,i remember breaking a dozen of those in a container once .Oh well hope for the best as they say lol . Since you like detail you would probably like these E188cc and 7308 .very clean sounding .Now have some 6BK7B in WA2 no detail monster ,but are warm sounding decent tube . i also like to try out those $5.00 tubes lol . When i posted in the WA2 tube rolling thread a guy critized me saying the 6BK7B tube is not an audio tube and said how can a $5.00 tube be any good in a $1200.00 amp . Didnt bother to respond to the guy .For God sakes its a tube rolling thread whats he doing there i dont know . [IMG] [IMG]

[IMG] My trip to my tube guy was almost a bust yesterday first off my reason to go there was to get a globe shape NX280 which turned out to be a dud but inherited it for expostion purposes manage to get that 6BK7B pair and a 5W4GT rectifier that i picked on the fly from my list when i was there only to find out later its was a 5 pin tube it is a successor to the type 80 tube tough it fits in the amp would it work ? Here's Data sheet http://frank.pocnet.net/sheets/127/5/5W4.pdf .Thanks [IMG]

You guys have me remembering fondly my years of tube madness. Loads of fun, lots of funds :) I'll still get a bit excited buying / using NOS tubes made the year I was born.

No, the worst is looking over at a NOS tube that cost a lot of money, and seeing arcing. The noise the arcing made was also horrible.

It has the same pin-out as a GZ34/5AR4, so it should be fine.

Got a question , can someone explain the amplification factor always heard about it but never really understood what it implies in the grand skeem of things it seems its not the most important factor in the equation .if you have a link to an article that i would understand would appreciate it .Thanks

The amplification factor, or mu, is defined simply as the ratio of the change in the input voltage on the grid over the change in output voltage on the plate. However, there are other factors at play, so you cannot simply double the gain of your amp by swapping out a 6SN7, with a mu of 20, for a C3g, with a mu of 40. That said, in my amp, swapping in a C3g does increase the gain of the amp slightly over a 6SN7. However, I also notice a bit more the noise, and therefore, I prefer to use tubes with a mu less than 40.

I am in substantial agreement with this review. The National Union is my favorite with the Tung-Sol a close second.

I prefer the NU 6F8G and 6C8G over both the black and gray variants of the NU 6SN7GT. My feeling is the black-glass, round-plate versions of the TS 6F8G, 6C8G and the 6SN7GT are all too close too call. However, I should say that this feeling is based on casual listening and memory, as I have not carefully compared the Tung-Sols.
