I'm planning on bringing my Studio (not my vinyl rig) down to the meet in SoCal. @shaizada needs to give it a listen. Especially with his slightly more efficient speakers I know he has lying around.

I've heard a lot of these rigs and I'm sorry, but Adam's rig is head and shoulders the best rig I've heard in the Bay Area in the 10+ years since I first joined HF.

Also, I'd like to point out that most of these guys have moved on. It's no use dreaming about the halcyon days of awesome NorCal bros. If you give the rigs of guys like Adam a listen you'll realize that the hobby has progressed and this new wave of enthusiasts are the ones pushing this hobby forward at the top end.

I remember dirty looks from my wife (then GF) building my half built KGSSHV in our living room and forgetting to put it away in the morning while still powered on with the chassis open. I remember the first time I heard the full MSB stack with the BHSE to the 009, I remember how floored I was the first time I heard an uberDAC feeding the BA, and probably a thousand other "WOAH" moments I've had in the hobby. It's all the past now. Personal audio is evolving and I'm excited to see where it's going.

Seeing as how you have essentially become the unofficial head of marketing/evangelist for EC I wouldn't expect you to think any different. ;)

ZD is Marv's unchained EC mouthpiece with milder bedside manners. Marv's kitty MoT got his tongue.

I make enough money that I don't need a job at EC.

I like the hell out of EC these days, what can I say? The current lineup is way better than what they've had in the past. I drink the Kool Aid.

I haven't always been the biggest fan. I will say there's some items I wouldn't recommend: I thought the 445 was too sterile. I thought the old BA wasn't that great when I had the Rag to compare. I like the new BA but I would say at that price either move up to the Studio or Studio Jr or move down to the lesser amps (it's awesomely beautifully lush, but it's not the sound I generally go for). I also don't tell most people to get the ZDS unless they really desire the quality that gives you shivers from the vocals. I don't really like the original ZD or ZD:SE even at the $1000-1500ish prices today. I also don't know why the monolith DIY is a thing (wtf, DIY dark star?!?!?).

I'm also affiliated (not on the payroll) with another audio company so I comment on the shit I like from other manufacturers (like EC and Schiit).

Edit: and to be clear, I really love that we have Milos on the forum (I really enjoy his perspective, especially when our tastes differ), but I do find that most of the people I know who have been in the hobby for a long time romanticize the epic rigs of yesteryear.

Also, blame @CEE TEE. He's the big EC fanatic who got me more obsessed than I care to be.

A huge part of @drfindley's rig is his TT, phono-pre, and all the bells and whistles. You can take the best digital recording on the best DAC, and it will still sound unimpressive against this TT rig. Too many times we've tried with various material going back and forth only to go "meh" when switching to digital (and we are talking other top DACs not just Yggdrasil). There's a reason why @shaizada, @drfindley, and I have sworn off digital for the most part, and why young audiophiles / ex-objectivists like @OJneg are scraping what they can to get into vinyl. Source is everything at this playing level or even slightly below it. Digital just isn't quite there yet.

It seems to me you're a pretty big fan of Eddie Current stuff yourself. Right now I think they're making the best of the best. If not, I wouldn't own two of their products.

You have to see it in person, it's rather nice. Then again, I love black coloring, so I'm biased.

Milos and others who'd like to come have a listen, let me know. I'd be happy to have you come over and listen and form your own opinion. Frankly, aside from an Orpheus 2 which none of us have heard, I bet you'll be hard pressed to find something sounding better.

I want to love digital and keep trying different things (XRCD, MFSL, etc.) releases, but it's just not there. I'm hoping we make huge strides in the next 5-10 years.

I strongly dislike music. I only like the same 10 audiophile test tracks that I listen to religiously to compare gear. I refuse to own any mediocrely mastered music so I am okay with having the best DAP in the world with 4GB of storage space for my 5 DSD and 5 24/192 tracks.

    Wait...

Seriously, though, the SuperBAF mod material was selected from a pool of 30 and I literally tuned by ear using entirely music that I love and love listening too while comparing against my philharmonics and the stock HD800. I have no idea why some people in the hobby spend more time focused on their epeens than making their music sound great.

Funny story, after a meet with Craig with the 2A3 MKII (which I actually regret not getting instead of the MK4 at the time) I bought the Carla Bruni CD he had playing because it was such a relaxing listen with the AD2000.

Ah yea. Got it. Forgot Craig was a fan ! Carla Bruni's music is not my cup of tea to be honest but it's not shit for sure.

Audiophile music I don't know cuz I don't know precisely what audiophile music is apart of usual tracks everybody seems to use to analyze gear. For critical Listening I mostly use the music I listen daily + some tracks I know well for being revealing of some special aspects. Usual method of lot of people here I think .

Who the f**k does care about how behave a headphone on specific tracks we never listen to ?
