Yeah, that's probably wise. As long as people have either DACs that accept USB/SPDIF/etc. or amps that accept a suitable hook up from a DAC, it's probably wise. It's nice to know what you're listening to and how it should sound/sound bad- rather than taking the risk of being stuck with "Hotel California" and "Jazz at the pawn shop".

It's pretty awesome that you have some useful sponsors too, that's well-wangled.

Dan is a regular at Burning Man...I doubt there's much that would make him blush.

Cheers yep I'm particularly chuffed with the sponsors this time, although I'm always careful to ensure they understand that the meets are for the members, and that being a sponsor doesn't grant them veto over anything significant. They generally seem cool with this. Iain @ RHA is a top bloke and is great at supporting the headphone geek community. It's Paul & Wendy's first time doing a HF meet but they have pretty much the best headphone/amp/dac collection in the UK and have plenty of experience lifting & shifting it all to trade shows.

Oh, and we'll also have Mark @ Electromod (Schiit EU) bringing the full range along as he's buddies with Paul. On top of that, we have the main event, 100+ members turning up with a crap load of gear.

This has turned into a bit of a sales pitch, oh well...hope you can make it!

Well, as long as I don't visit HF too much in the interim, I may well do. I can feel the brain cells dying, when I forget and post there.

There's no reason why the sponsors need a veto, really- a building full of hungry audio nerds is a golden opportunity. I know that RHA and Electromod seem just fine at working the nerd/vendor interface- I'm sure Paul and Wendy won't have a problem, having done so many trade shows. If they're smart enough to give show discounts, especially, it could well be worth their while (I know Mark from Electromod's line was "I don't do show discounts", mind).

Iain at RHA is fantastically tolerant and deadpan, too.

I'm certainly more likely to consider it having run into a few scurvy SBAFfers now, especially if the t-shirts arrive and look good \/

Oh yes, I'll be sporting my SBAF T at the HF meet :). Paul will definitely be offering a meet discount.

Fair enough. I always thought he had a bit of a "Ned Flanders" quality based on a couple youtube videos I've seen. You can't judge a book by its cover as they say.

No doubt Ned Flanders would blush at Burning Man or the sight of black caulk for that matter. ;)

Edited to add... Would it be out of line to put a tube of black caulk somewhere in the graphic of the next SBAF shirt?

Must admit, I've been looking at Head-Fi differently, since I have found this forum. I still think head-fi is a cool place to hang-out (if you keep in mind a few basic rules) but since I have been reading this thread, I can see through some tricks certain people try to pull. Not sure if it is one of them, but it seems fishy to me:http://www.head-fi.org/t/650510/the-new-hd800-impressions-thread/23880#post_12968737

The last few posts seem to me kind of orchestrated for hyping up this cable. Or I might be wrong, and it's just my imagination...

Typical HF "reviews". 2000 words when 200 would be more than enough. You may have a point though, there seem to be reviews of that cable popping up in other threads as well (Utopia, HEK). Still, pretty much every HF impressions thread eventually turns into cable rolling bullshit bingo.

Oi, my only HF review is long and rambling, too

Worse yet, it is almost completely positive, because it's a review of a really good product.

I haven't been on Head-Fi for years. The reason is that most headphone discussions consist of people recommending gear they have never tried. "I heard that headphone has better PRaT than XYZ" except that most of the users forget to include "I heard". They will re-chew the words from Jude and Tyll over and over again. The amount of people giving recommendations without personal experience is way too high.

There is only one thing worse than people on HF recommending gear that they have never heard.. people on HF recommending gear that they have heard.* **

    * Because of rampant new toy syndrome and a need to justify their decisions to themselves.

** With huge apologies to Oscar Wilde.

I have posted a few posts over there these past few months just to get selling privilages. ;)

The sheer utter nonsense posted as replies on the Utopia thread when I suggested that price does not matter when evaluating gear was somewhat surprising. Trying to bring about a logical argument that having live acoustic music as reference to compare headphones was met with incredulous demeaning posts about how Beats can't be equally compared to LCD4. Oh the hilarity that ensued is stupefying!

Then I committed sacrilege by suggesting that the HD650 is far superior to the LCD4 .

Ahhh, you want to do a postmortem and examine the evidence.

Now I need to recheck and remember what exactly happened back in August!

So, you got to get the context right: here's the intial 1st post, second, third and fourth post.

Now the bombshell... price has no meaning and HD650 vs LCD4 comparison.
