Absolutely the same. Difference is only on THD graph.

How do you easily increase the tension in the membrane?

You make it work long hours for little money in a bad work environment.

The trick is knowing when to stop or its Michael Douglas in Falling Down all over again and you lose a batch of headphones.

    That is what I thought but, Garuspik said;
I may have misunderstood something, maybe he is referring to the felt mod.

Yes, I meant felt mod. Tension is set once and for ever by manufacturer. Sure you can heat membranes but I strictly do not recommend to do it.

I'm just glad you aren't trying to make the membranes as thin as humanly possible and all that stuff. Hifiman keeps insisting that this is the future, while their headphones have less and less balls.

Frankly speaking I whanted to make a film thinner. That little mdirange haze and roll off ather 16khz is a result of relatively thick film.
But it has some sound benefits and huge benefit in reliability. And I'm constantly searching for a supplier of a sandwich mylar + aluminium film that is thinner then the film I currently use.

I know Rinaro is located in Ukraine and are responsible for making the new drivers for the meze empyrean headphones. I'm not sure if they would be able to give information on suppliers or whatnot, but it may be worth contacting them.

I really doubt cause we're direct competitors. Especially when the price is 10x times different.

in all fairness you are not currently competitors - precisely because of price difference - completely different market - But I need to agree that them wanting to share anything wit you is highly unlikely

As the membranes of the TOTL HFM cans get thinner, the aluminum traces don't. Is it just me or does anyone else hear this timbre that reminds you of the overtones from the decay aluminum pots crashing together?

I mean, that it's a bad thing for hi-end manufacturer when technologies from flagship products reach more mass-market products.

Hm. Very interesting. It's a real fact or an assumption? As any manufacturer I'm very interested in implementing others knowledge :D

    It's real:

As for the traces, I'm sure you can thin them out, only to an extent. Traces breaking are a big reason why HFM cans go back for warranty service. Someone posted a close up of HEK diagram here.

I saw that video. It would be much more interesting with traces. As we all understand thinner diaphragm is more flexible and can reproduce higher frequencies more accurate. At the same time because of it's flexibility chance to tear aluminium trace is higher. During this year we'll see whether I've achieved good reliability.

The problem is when you end up with more metal trace than diaphragm by weight, you essentially end up with a driver tinged like the metal used. What makes the Verum very special is its timbre. Very normal and a throwback to the Japanese orthos of the 70s which were at one point collectors items.

Definitely chase it, but not to an extreme.

When I realized that i'm not going to build TOTL headphones things immediately become much simpler ;)
But for sure, after I'll ship all orders i'll be searching for ways to improve.

My HE4XX has a faulty driver on one side. It's unable to recreate any sub bass. The other one does fine down to 20Hz and below. Yeah, drivers shitting themselves is not a worthy sacrifice.

Hm, looks like different excursion. It can be because of VERY different tension (in which I have some doubts) but maybe you're lucky enough and it is some felt\damping material somewhere between magnets and membrane?

p.s. I like He400 series. Imho that was a real breakthrough in affordable planars market after the hegemony of Fostex 50 and it's mods.
