Love it! Sad backstory to this tune, makes me glad I wasn't around for WWII

Johnny Mercer composed "Mandy Is Two" in 1941. The debut recording (Claude Thornhill Orchestra, Dick Harding, vocals) is a bluesy little foxtrot with nice changes--a novelty tune.

A year later Billie Holiday covered it with the Teddy Wilson Orchestra. Their version is in a different universe musically: slower and swinging, with Billie's voice plaintive beyond belief, creating quite a contrast to Mercer's bouncy, ironic lyrics (immortalizing a little girl's 2nd birthday). It's my favorite Billie Holiday tune:

I wish Joe Lynn Turner had co-existed with Malmsteen for longer. Odyssey is by far my favorite album of the catalogue.

Why on earth would you link out to something as offensive as what you describe?

because it is real art. by that i mean that it comes from the heart. Kanye is holding nothing back. digging his own grave.

all the music you hear on the radio is just something that was in the contract where all the writing was outsourced to some faceless writer where the label put in all their messages that they wanted in there, removed anything they didn't want, and then the "artist" like a trained monkey "performed" it, but didn't actually have anything to do with the track

such music isn't art. it is superficial / vacuous simulacrum.

here it's the opposite. Kanye is ruining his own life by telling everybody what he really thinks. this is real art.

who wouldn't want to see a ( former ) billionaire completely melt down, implode and ruin his life ?

Me, I wouldn't, the less I know about the artists the more free I am too enjoy their product. To put him inside of any category besides pop is silly. He is part of that ugly scene. Him putting this music out is just an emperor's new clothes moment. I won't watch that and it has zilch to do with the topic, his music sucks in my opinion. Shock factor and axe to grind don't make something artistic.

Years ago, before he descended into mental illness and extremism, I would have clicked on his videos. Not necessarily my jam, but worth a look. But now? Nope.

I often avoid reading the blurbs and "artists motivations/intentions/interpretations/moral vomitings" Roon pulls down for albums. In the past artists would look in the mirror and blame themselves, or at least have the decency to cut their own ear off. Today it's everybody else's fault, so the hating is real and thick.

And it's not just popular music/musicians either, jazz artists might be the worst of the genres I listen to. Only classical musicians seem to tone it down, but occasionally they get their punches in as well.

So usually I just avoid all this and enjoy the Transcendence of the music itself
