Sorry. Not sure I am buying the whole, no income, my daughter, taxes etc. Could it possibly be due to the fact that the headphone is less than universally loved that has him changing his mind about owning them. I think we all have seen this before. Probably some of us here too. O.K. me too. I admit it. Someone buys the lastest FOTM, then realizes that they aren't as great, or more importantly adored by others as they thought. Then someone as well established as Tyll can't recommend it. They defend their decision, ultimately dumping them as they aren't considered "the best ever" by others. If someone is in that kind of financial trouble (and I sincerely hope that is not the case), how does selling a used headphone going to turn things around? Or, if one is in that kind of financial straights why would you buy a $2300 can? Kinda doesn't pass the smell test.

Honestly, I hope I am wrong. And if I am, glad to see he is doing what's right by his daughter, and I wish him the best. But......

Oh, I'd bet my money that this is a highly convenient way to elicit sympathy and to ensure he can offload his gear before moving on to the next.

I think Tyll is like a wise Jedi here telling the dark Sith lord "oh yes very impressive" while not being impressed at all (because years of experience).

Tyll is trying to keep the forces at balance while the power hungry Sith lord wants to take over everything. So far Tyll is not losing ground and halting the dark Sith lord in his quest.

 

A good salesman knows how to do this. I've had hi-fi salesman use something similar back in the day. My question is, and lord knows I have bought stuff when I should have been saving my money, why would someone keep buying all this stuff if you many many other pressing priorities?

On another note. I had to stop reading the thread. Too many people who are clueless as to the physics behind sound reproduction or gravity or why the sky is blue and oceans aren't etc. Mostly they seem to have complete ignorance of what High-Fidelity means.

I love the post where somebody asked, "if you don't like the MDR-Z1R why are you posting in this thread?". Classic. Um because it is a discussion started by your Dear Leader?

 

I enjoy reading the thread more vicariously through you all. I get the highlights. Or like mst3k.

Now I know that sony defender's adamant defense was all about maintaining the awesomeness of his soon to be sold, overpriced, disliked headphones.

Seriously, though I unsubscribed from that thread. HF's current version of FOTM is worse than I remembered.

 

Or we could give him the benefit of the doubt, in a 6.5 hour time span he may have had an epiphany.

Interesting. Seems he may have cut threw all the noise and got closer to the concensous about this headphone. It is not reference or hi-fidelity. I haven't personally heard it so I can't say. But there are enough data points to reach that conclusion. I think that's all Tyll and others have been saying. Not saying it sucks, just that it may not be what a lot of hi-fi types would want in a headphone, that and the price is too high for how it sounds. Seems Jude has moderated his statements as well. Perhaps SBAF has had some influence. At least I hope so. Sunshine is the best disinfectant.

I wonder after all the dust settles, will we see more people putting up the MDR-71R up for sale?

 

It's headfi. The answer is always yes. Except, its headfi on a new platform. Which basically means people will list them and no one will be able to find them.

I agree, I liked and both dislike many of his posts. Though I got some nice feed back from sone one who own's both the HD 800 and MDR Z1R

any ways we can restart the tour for these?
