    Seriously, this is a thread that shit all over me for attempting to recommend an under-performing amp/dac in the face of a much better purchase based entirely on sound quality. I by the way got to hear a Modi-Magni combo... I liked it.

    My point being, had he been a member here... he would have gotten a recommendation for something actually worth his f'ing money and most likely MUCH MUCH more affordable. How ever, in other communities, it can often be the opposite. They might push you to just spend a little bit more...

    Don't mistake a frank opinion for a lack of compassion. My father was a was very frank with me, and for many years I hated him... only when I started to f'ing listen did I realize that his honesty and frankness was an expression of his compassion, honesty is often more helpful than "sugar coated sympathy"

    I think the whole Japanese marketing shifting toward harsher segmentation. Most of the people wants to buy a lifestyle or identity not a high quality or reliable product. Headphones for "bassheads", "JBL sound", "european sound" etc.
    More traditional companies are in trouble because of this like Nikon in the camera market.
    More than half of the headphones I see on the streets in Japan are Beats. I fear even big Japanese manufacturers will try to copy it's sound.

    On Japanese forums they mostly mention harsh treble as the only fault of the Z1R, but its much cheaper here, the usual selling price for used Z1Rs here is about 1300usd and its getting even cheaper.

    I lost a friend to DUI, another to alcohol poisoning, and an acquaintance to self inflicted gunshot wound when I was in young. I did some really dumb shit to cope. (You know, the life is meaningless crap, so why not?) My dad was not pleased. He reminded me that he himself lost his dad when he was only eight years old and he didn't do stupid shit, he couldn't because he was poor.

    I didn't exactly like his answer. It sure wasn't consoling. I hated him for seemingly not caring. But it somehow proved great advice later in life. Shit happens. Life is hard. You keep steady moving forward.

    Yea I made some bad choices, and really isolated my self through college. Blew TONS of money on head phone stuff and video games trying to fill the void. I couldn't keep a job much either. But thick or thin, he was around to kick my ass into gear and keep my fed and sheltered... thankfully when I finally got my head out of my ass and got a great job his advice stuck with me!

    UPDATE: @chopstix IPs are from Vancouver BC. He usually comes in via proxy server. Been on my track list for sometime actually. I can parse the logs to get more info if needed.
